Would new foods make eczema worse?

One of my girls has a few patches of eczema.. I've been treating it-unsuccessfully-with aquafor. Im trying to avoid prescriptions.
Anyway, I noticed today it became very red/angry and a few new spots popped up around it... The only thing different was that I gave her strawberries yesterday. Just wondering if it could be connected.
Thoughts?

Would new foods make eczema worse?

I've heard eczema can be related to allergies. I would avoid strawberries for a week or so and then try again to see if she has a reaction (and consider having benadryl on hand just in case). As far as treating it, the best advice I got from the Dr was to mix a little cortisone cream with aquaphor to make a paste and put that on the patches. Works great for DS. GL!

For eczema I'd also use cetaphil daily

I was allergic to strawberries as a kid and it made me itchy and rashy.

I read an article about how processed foods can be causing an uprise in eczema...so it may not necessarily be an allergy in the traditional sense of how someone would swell up to certain foods...but the body is fighting these toxins from processed crap, additives, preservatives, dyes MSG, GMO's etc...and it shows up in the form of eczema.

this isn't the original article i read but it's a great link. It also mentions hydration. Try using coconut oil on it.

My doctor said he thought it was rare that foods cause or irritate eczema but in my (totally non expert opinion) it seems to happen. DD had a touch of eczema at 4 months after using sunscreen on her then nothing until 9 months when we started giving her table foods. I absolutely thing there was a connection for DD but like I said, I'm no expert.

I recently had allergy testing done on DD and was surprised she showed no reaction to grapes since she definitely had one when she ate them the first time. Like strawberries, grapes are one of the dirty dozen (highest in pesticides) so it could be something to do with that. When I do let her try them again, it will definitely be organic.

Yes it can. I was told to hold off on cereal for this reason (I started at 6.5 mo and its fine). Try Cerave.

Im really glad you posted this. I just said to DH this morning that Im starting to feel really badly-again-about ending EBF so soon. I worry that her skin reactions are a result of that. We recently started adding table foods but the rash started well before strawberries and/or grapes.
The only processed food she eats is puffs. Ill read on and take a look at what could be the cause.

In the mean time, thanks to all for the recommendations. I use Cerave myself so Ill try this as well.

DD had TERRIBLE eczema for her whole first year. A few times we had to put a prescription cream on it, it was so bad. Aquaphor did NOTHING for her. CeraVe was pretty good.

Honestly, the only thing that cleared it up was... me stopping EBF'ing. We didn't find out until months later, but she is allergic to several foods and apparently since I was eating all of them pretty regularly, she was getting a hefty dose from my milk. As soon as I stopped, her skin got better. Chat Icon

After the strawberries, did your DD have really bad eczema around the mouth, where her skin touched the strawberries? That's how we found out really early on that DD was allergic to a particular fruit.

No, nothing on her face... the eczema is on her chest... and that got worse, and more of it after the strawberries.
