Swimming lessons with my 7month-old twins
DH and I would like to spend some time with the girls at a parent-and-me swimming class. We live in southern Nassau. Any recommendations? Is this too young?
Also, with all of these silly stories on the news about poop in a diaper and e-coli, what are you supposed to have on a baby at the pool? (i.e. a chlorinated kiddie pool at the beach or at a public park etc) I have no idea, lol

I love, love, love, love Tom at Saf T Swim in Bellmore.
He's awesome.
7 months is perfect. I started DD at 6 months and wish I started at 3 mos.
I have her in a disposable swim diaper and a reuseable swim diaper. It's required by Saf T Swim.
I know other moms like World Gym classes, and I also know in Massapequa area there are some that give private lessons at your pool or another pool if you have access to one.
I love taking my DD to swim class and she loves it too!

We just started swimming lessons with my 16 month old DD. We are going to the YMCA in Patchogue. It is once a week for 8 weeks, and it cost $70 for a membership and $100 for the classes.
It is a mommy and me type class, really just to get LO comfortable/familiar with the water. So far she is enjoying it. We sing songs and play around.
I would check with your local Y.
As far as the ecoli - I never heard that. The class is only 1/2 hour, I just make sure to put a new swimmy diaper before the class and thats it.
ETA: 7 months is not too young, there are plenty of little babies in the class. (birth - 2 years is the range)

LOVE TOM TOO at Bellmore! He is really hard to get a private with (we have been with him since Carlie was about 10 months) He teaches the Mommy and Me classes there and he is amazing! I never let my daughter swim with another teacher there b/c he is just that great! We actaully pass 3/4 swimming schools on our way to Bellmore to learn there... just so we can have him. We come from Mineola/Garden City Area.
Def Recommend him too!

Hmph...he doesn't teach the Mommy and Me on the weekends, I guess. I wasn't that impressed with our instructors. We decided to do the Little Gym for now through the summer, but I think I'd like to go back to Saf-T-Swim for individual lessons for DD at some point.

Thanks for the advice, everyone! I had checked out SafTswim, but their Oceanside location hasn't re-opened since Sandy, so I guess it's Bellmore for us! DO you think we should do private lessons or group mommy and me? it will be DH and myself.

We did Saf-T-Swim with our twins when they were 7 months. We did the mommy/daddy and me classes. It was a lot of fun and the instructors were awesome, but we did our class in Oceanside, which didn't reopen yet since Sandy.

Wishing4baby and Jenn627, thank you! We def. like groups.. much more fun that way for mom, dad, and babies. We live in Oceanside.... I wish the one on Lawson was open. It would be much more convenient!
