if your DC slept in the crib since birth ...
where was thier room and where was yours?
with DD we rented a one story house so her room was right next to ours and DD slept in her crib since the first night she came home (a few nights she did sleep in a swing/bouncer type thing we had). mainly because i didnt want to have to worry about having to transition her to the crib and because there was no room for her in our bedroom
we have #2 on the way and we have now bought a house where the kids rooms are upstairs and ours is downstairs.
Am i crazy if keep the newborn upstairs? Should i get a bassinet for our room?

Before I gave birth I thought she'd be in the crib from day one.
But to be honest- it wasn't practical in the beginning.
She was up every 2 hours all night long.
Having her in the rock n play right next to our bed made those frequent night time feedings SOOOO much easier.
Plus if she was just up because she lost the binky or needed to be rocked a bit- I coudl do that right from bed and go right back to sleep- rather than traipsing all the way to her room only to find out she was ok but just need soothing, etc.
We have a one story and her room is right across from ours and still it was too much.
If the baby's room is upstairs I think you are better off having something in your room- at least until they are waking up less often at night.
It's just so much easier on you.

I would just get a rock and play. DS started SSTN at 7 weeks and that's when we transitioned him to the crib. Before that the RnP was great for our room.

DC bedroom was on the same floor as the master bedroom. Just a few rooms away. Do you have a video monitor?

yes we will have a video monitor in the room.
As for RnP suggestion i dont feel its sturdy whough we have 90 pound pitbull and mini daschsund and i feel if they dog accidentaly hit into it they might tip it over.

All 3 of my kids have been in their cribs since day 1. I didn't want to deal with the transitioning issues either. The way our house is set up is that all bedrooms are upstairs. But if I had your set up I wouldn't have done it any different. As long as you have a monitor I don't see any issue at all.

I would do a bassinet or pnp - but I am lazy! When I am exhausted and doing MOTN feedings, I literally want to just reach over and pick up DD And feed her and put right back down.
I do have to say it was a very easy to transition DD from bassinet to crib. Around 7-8 weeks I started napping her in the crib and at 12 weeks she started sleeping at night in her crib.

We had her in our room in a bassinet for about 5 weeks. Then switched to a crib - her room was the furthest from ours.
It wouldn't have been an issue and I plan on putting our next in the crib from day one.
I don't think you're crazy. I mean, how long does it really take you to go upstairs? 45 secs?
eta: After hearing all the difficulty ppl had transitioning from the RNP and all the flat head issues, I would stay far, far away from it.

Across the hall from each other, upstairs. For #2 we will have to figure something out though b/c we have a cape and only the 2 rooms upstairs. I will probably put a crib in our room until they can share a room (if #2 ever comes along that is)

The baby's room is on the first floor and my bedroom is on the second.
I did sleep in the nursery for the first 6 weeks. I was recovering from a C/S and couldn't manage stairs very well.
