Why can't I give away baby items when we decided we are done?

DH and I have decided we are going to stop at 2 boys. Our lifestyle has just gotten better. First year with DS#2 was TOUGH.

We have several friends around me who could use our gear but I am having such a problem giving away our baby gear. Most of our stuff is 4 years old that we got when DS#1 was born so it isn't even excellent condition since it was used by 2 kids. IF we ever did decide to have a third, it would not be a big deal to buy new stuff but I still feel like I want to hold on to random items like the pack n play, baby swing, baby mats, etc.

Anyone else in the same boat?

I feel like such a hoarder.

Why can't I give away baby items when we decided we are done?

If you have the storage space (attic, basement, etc) to keep it, there is no harm in holding onto it for a few more years until you're 100% sure.
I might just give away items that expire, such as carseats, if you know you're not using them before the expiration date.

If you have the space to keep it then it wouldn't bother me. I'd toss it though once you're POSITIVE you're done (which it doesn't sound like your 100% done done DONE from your post). If I knew I wasn't physically capable of having more then I'd really feel like it was really time to part with the items, space or not.

I have two boys, last year when they were 4 and 2, and we knew we were done, I gave most of the stuff away.

I kept sentimental items, but most the gear is gone! Car seats, several strollers, swings, bouncy seats, exersaucers, etc. I also gave away my maternity clothes. I am almost 41, so I sure of our decision. Like you, our stuff is pretty worn after the two boys anyway.

If it helps you feel better, SIL gave away everything, thinking they were done after their third kid. Well, you guessed it, they had a surprise 4th pregnancy! They were fine, because several friends and family gave or loaned them items, so they ended up not needing to buy much.

It was funny, one friend of hers came to her house with a snap and go stroller that SIL gave her, and said "looks like you are going to need this again"

We also have 2 boys, I want to get rid of everything. Dh will not part with anything. If we did decide to have another, I want new things TBH. I call DH a hoarder

I feel like you, things are just becoming a tiny bit easier

It sounds like maybe your not done? I know after I had DD who is now 9 months I used the same stuff from DS who is 3 and I am the one packing everything up as fast as I can lol I know I am done.

I gave away all the baby stuff from my DD because DH and I were "done". Here we are 5 1/2 years later expecting again with NOTHING left from DD.

I would say hold onto it because you never know.

If you are still holding it you are not 100% done yet. wait until you feel ready and 100%
