Re: Mother's Day....

DH usually gets me something from the kids (DD and SS). Last year he had them fill out cards and bought me flowers I think Chat Icon . I usually make DH in charge of kids for the day so if I want to go get my nails done or shop or something I can. My family is always pretty considerate of my wishes but maybe because the first year I was a mom I spoke up. I always make my mom, my mil and did make my grandma (rip Chat Icon ) a priority as well so either we do a light coffee and cake at my house or go out to eat so the burden doesn't fall on anyone to entertain. I would say something gently.

Re: Mother's Day....

I would speak up about it. Normally I host Mother's day. I coordinate presents (flowers, cards, and gifts) for my mom, mil and my grandma from everyone (my family and my siblings). My dh gets me flowers, cards from him and the kids, and a gift from the kids. My parents give me a card and gift as do my inlaws. My first year my parents did not, but they gave DH something for fathers day and my mom got a gift from my grandma. I pointed it out and told her that I was really hurt. I think you need to speak up and tell them what you want.

Re: Mother's Day....

I'm not that into Mother's Day or any holidays like that. This will be my first Mother's Day and so far I don't feel that much different.

I always bought my mom a gift... not a $200 gift thought Chat Icon

We will probably go out to brunch with the baby, card and small gift. I'm not expecting much. Mostly just a relaxing day.

Birthdays and anniverseries mean much more to me because they are our special days. But I totally get wanting to feel appreciated on mother's day. It's hard work being a mom!

Why are you buying a gift for mothers day for someone who isnt a mother?? Did I miss that part? I get a card, flowers or day of pampering. I buy the grandmas flowers and give them a little something from ds.

My sons ex-godmother got gifts for mothers day... I have no idea why!!!! I guess because it was mainly her nieces and nephews.. I did it once and then had to skip her birthday the following month... Chat Icon

My DH usually gets me a GC to get a mani/pedi or to go shopping.
He'll get me scratchoffs or candy from the kids.

My bday always falls around Mothers Day (May 10th), so, sometimes we'll wrap Bday and Mothers Day into one going out to dinner.

Mother's Day....

Last year we went to visit my MIL in Queens and waited almost 2 hours to be seated at a restaurant that she wanted to go to. I told DH I am not doing that again. I see my Mom everyday so she was fine with us not spending Mother's Day together, but I agree, no one asks me what I want. In the midst of Mother's Day dinner last year, FIL turned to me and was like, "Oh I forgot that you celebrate Mother's Day too. In that case I'll treat to dinner" (as opposed to DH). He said this while my 1 and 3 year olds were climbing all over me. I just smiled and continued eating. To answer your question, DH does get me a small gift and a card. I would definitely say something... even if it is as a joke. Hopefully someone will get the hint.

Thank you.. If my Dad were still alive, he would make sure I got something. Or even just a day to myself.. I am constantly reminded my my Mom about Fathers day for hubby... But there is no reminding hubby about Mothers Day. When his Mom was still alive, we always did something for her...Dinner or her favorite..Chocolate... My Mom liked to go out for dinner or a home cooked meal. Recently it has been gift cards.... I guess I will start to drop little hints... Maybe it will work Chat Icon

Re: Mother's Day....

In my family we get together on Father's day for a bbq. So for Mother's day we all usually do our own thing as far as brunch, dinner etc.

We always get my mom and MIL a gift. Usually flowers or an edible arrangement or something.

Last year was my first mother's day and DH got me a mani/pedi GC.

This year we decided that we will be getting a piece of artwork for the house for a combined mother's day/father's day gift.

DS is only 2 so he doesn't get me anything and I don't think it's occurred to DH to buy something for me on behalf of him! Chat Icon

We've always hosted a brunch/lunch for mothers and grandmothers. This is my first mother's day so we will see if anything comes my way.

Why would you expect a gift from your brother or other family members?

I would only expect something from my own kids/DH.

I don't think it's anyone responsibility other than your DH's to get you a Mother's Day gift, JMO.

My DH is good with gifts but if I want something in particular, I speak up. No need to sit and stew about it, especially if you know he's not good at giving gifts. And after 12 years I am guessing its not a surprise that he's not. Chat Icon

Re: Mother's Day....

This will be my 2nd Mothers Day and DH and I decided that for Mothers/Fathers day we would do a family picnic somewhere different each year. We also do cards and sometimes a small gift but to me/us, this doesn't really need to be a gifty day but more about spending time together with our daughter. He plans & does the shopping for my day and I for his.

On a side note- did you say ex-godmother? lol, I don't think that exists

Mother's Day....

We send flowers to our Mother's and Grandmothers along with some sort of art project the kids did. We go to church and then out to brunch. My DH gets me something from the kids as well as some project they do and he gets me something as well. Every year it's different. This year I know i'm getting a Brighton ring from him and some Lavender plants fo the back yard from the kids.

As for the kids God-Mother's we also send them something small that child made and a card. For my sisiter who is DS's god mother we take her some flowers as well.

I don't think my mom or brother should get me anything but maybe remind my husband to get me something would be good.. My mom reminds me every fathers day to get him something.. My Mom has gotten my cousin stuff for mothers day when her kids were younger. I guess it isn't important enough to them... And after 12 years, I should be use to it, but I have only been a Mom since 2009...

Right. Just curious, is this the first time you have ever complained about not getting gifts from your DH? What is so bad about telling him "Hey, Mother's Day is May 12th this year and I would really like a card from DS."

Why rely on family members when they have not "helped" your DH remember in the past?

Not the first time I have hinted toward Mothers Day. The first one I hinted and it was only when my cousin sent me a card in the mail is when I got "oh, your gift is on the way. Had to order it"... I never got anything.. Chat Icon
Every Mothers Day, I get something for my Mom. My brother gets her a card, but how come they can't remember that I am also a mom now and I have not gotten anything...I will just get something from my son for me and end this discussion here..
