Buying baby clothes before shower?

Anyone go on any mini baby clothes shopping sprees before their shower?

I feel like I should really be waiting to see what I get because from what I'm told, you get A LOT of clothing from people as gifts.

I'm still in so much shock that this little guy is on the way and shopping definitely makes it feel more real. I got a little carried away today Chat Icon

Anyone else been buying a lot of your own stuff earlier on, or are people mostly waiting to see what they get as gifts first? I told myself I need to cool it. Chat Icon I can't help it .. years and years of shopping for other peoples babies, I love that finally I get to shop for my own.

I'm right there with you!! People are telling me the same thing but it's hard, esp with the first. I'm trying to rein it in but if I see something cute or unique, I'm getting it.

So far, I've bought baby girl a bunch of Carter's clothes, newborn to 12 mos but everything was on sale at Macy's. I also bought this cute little lamb coat for Easter next year. I couldn't help myself. It was so freakn cute and I kept picturing her wearing it for Easter and church next year. I also bought the cutest My First Weitzman pink sandals for next year. Yes, Stuart Weitzman sandals for a baby! Terrible but they are the cutest thing ever. DH bought her a pink newborn tutu. Strictly for baby pictures though.

My shower is the beginning of June, so I will try not to do too much more, but it's not easy!!

I bought a few things. A couple of headbands and 2-3 outfits. Not sure if I will buy much more than that.

It may be different for me bc I'm team Chat Icon , but I got no clothes at all for my shower. Just the plain white onesies that were on my registry. Literally, none. Everyone really bought off the registry, so you never know.

If you see things you want, buy them. Chat Icon

I say, you can do whatever you want! Just make sure you buy different sizes because they grow out so fast!

I did with my DD because I knew she was a girl. Not knowing this time has helped tremendously!!!!! I bought a boy and a girl coming home outfit and thats it! So shocked at myself but I don't want too much yellow or white.

Buying baby clothes before shower?

With my 1st I did not shop before my shower. I wanted to, but my step mom is all superstitious and old school that doesn't believe in shopping before baby is born, but baby shower is ok.

With DS I shopped as soon as I left my level 2 ultrasound appointment. I had everything in place by 31 weeks and he was born at 35w so it worked out.

I don't think I am having a sprinkle or shower so I plan on shopping around 26 weeks since I will be on stay-cation that week.

I am like you and went on a little shopping spree for LO. I bought things I liked that I saw. Zulily has been my weakness! They had a carhart sale and being that my DH and I are both in construction and so is my dad I couldn't resist. I stopped when my shower invites went out.

My plan is, wash the clothing I bought and keep the tags on what other bought until I need to use them. If it's BBB/BRU stuff I'll just return it for the store credit. I'm getting leftovers from friends too. I know I won't be using half the clothes that I get but at least I have the options.

I actually didn't buy DS a thing before he was born --with the exception of a stuffed Tigger toy from Disney World where we went when I was about 6 months PG. I felt weird about it.

Ended up being a good thing because I got tons of clothes at my shower. Some I never even used.

CRASHINGG - i didnt buy any clothes myself for DS, even after baby shower. you def do get a lot of clothes - mostly 0-3 months. DS had so many 0-3 month clothes i dont think he got to wear all of them! if you're going to buy clothes, i would get some newborn and 3-6 or larger for baby.

I was the opposite... i had to buy a ton of 0-3...almost everyone gave us 3-6 or bigger! I didnt buy any clothes until after she was born.

Re: Buying baby clothes before shower?

I've only bought some special onesies like.... Our favorite baseball team gear. One in a newborn size so I know we can have a picture of LO in it when they're very small but bought everything else much bigger. Also made sure I had a small rotation of gender neutral onesies for the first few weeks. I'm due in August and don't feel like I need a lot of outfits since it'll be warm.

I'm not buying any other clothes until after the baby gets here since we are team green.

I am going to register for sleep and play things and the rest if the clothes can come after when we know if its a boy or girl. Have a few people who have a bunch of hand me downs waiting for me too and I'm all about that. Baby clothes fit for such a short period of time anyway and I'm all aboutn reusing stuff if you can.

We shopped. We got a bunch of clothes at the shower but we definitely shopped before. It's addicting.

Re: Buying baby clothes before shower?

Although I'll be tempted to, I'm not going to buy ANY clothes before the shower or before the baby is even here (aside from the basic necessities - onsies, pjs, go home outfit etc).

I'm sure I'll be getting more then enough stuff at the shower to carry me over until the time I'm well enough to go out and start shopping. I have 2 concerns. First, the baby will be born late summer early fall so I have no clue what the weather will be like then. Sept. is a tricky month and can go either way. Second, although the baby will technically be a newborn, realistically I have no idea what size will fit the baby and I really don't want to worry about running around returning things.

Plus, I'm sure the minute my mom finds out if it's a boy or girl on Monday she'll already be shopping and will have purchased an entire wardrobe for the baby. lol

Buying baby clothes before shower?

We did and it was such a mess returning clothes after the shower and after the baby was born. We got doubles and triples of things! I would buy something if it was super cute or from Zulilly or was in a bigger size. Other then that I would wait because you'll get a lot at the shower and after the baby comes. I had enough clothes for almost 6 months with just what was given to us. With what I returned I was able to buy more for the 12 months and up size. Not many people bought anything bigger then 9 months.

Re: Buying baby clothes before shower?

Thanks ladies, interesting to see what everyone else is doing. I am definitely holding off for now till we see what else we get as gifts, but it's so much fun being able to spoil my little guy with clothes I'm imagining him wearing one day. It's my own personal way of celebrating the milestone of coming as far as we have so far. Every day I wake up with a healthy baby in there just amazes me to gargantuan proportions!

Re: Buying baby clothes before shower?

I wasChat Icon so I did not do much baby clothes shopping but did pick out two coming home outfits. My suggestion would be to buy bigger sizes to satisfy the itch to clothes shop. You will most likely get newborn-6 months clothes at your shower.
