Do you think we are due for a rock revival?
I think it has been a long time overdue (or maybe I am just old now and out of touch) but I feel like there is NO rock anymore, NONE. At least nothing not cheesy and overproduced and authentic. Hell, there is barely a rock station on the radio here.
Do you think we are due for a rock revival, much like 80s hair did to disco, grunge did to boy bands (and hair metal).
I think we are, but I also think I am just old, and sound like my Dad. "Remember when Rock was really music, not that crap you listen to today" and then he would put on CCR (which, in his defense, is now one of my all time favorite bands, so maybe he wasn't wrong, but does that in turn mean I might not be wrong either, lol?)

Re: Do you think we are due for a rock revival?
Dear god I hope so. This bull shit that's classified as 'rock' lately is just a bunch of pansy-ass whiny hipster babies whose asses I could kick with one arm tied around my back and blindfolded.
There's such a lack of raw anger...the fuel, the drive.
Sometimes I think its because of politics. There was a lot of angry music when GWB was in office...but we are still at war, kids...KIDS...are still dying over there.
I think part of the issue is technology...as connected as wee are all the time, it kind of disconnects us from each other...people now get angry over one Facebook post that someone makes instead of engaging the person in conversation to see why they feel that way. And so, we have a bunch of whiny hipster babies running the show.
Shows are still happening, bands are still out there, but you really have to search for it. Sean Yseult (White Zombie's former bassist) is in a heavy rockabilly band called Star & Dagger that's playing on Sunday night...Social D is playing Brooklyn in June...Mudhoney is playing Brooklyn and Manhattan in May...DH and I play our basement whenever we feel like it lol...friends come by to jam..
We are due for something soon...some kind of uproar needs to happen.
I'm tired of music that makes me feel nothing.

I can't stand majority of what's on the radio. People nowadays consider Daughtry rock...I just can't take it anymore. Thank god for college radio and pandora.
I feel sad for kids today...the music they have SUCKS

I think so! I cannot stand all the crap that's on the radio. Everyone is all starting to sound the same. Even in the Folk genre. Mumford & Sons, Of Monsters & Men, and Milo Greene are all starting to sound the same.
I'm getting excited that Queens Of The Stone Age is finally coming out with a new album next month.

I hope so it also does, but as PJC said, it's out there you just have to find it. It won't be on regular radio. Octane on SiriusXM is good. I have it in the car, but won't pay for online streaming so every week I make a fake email account and setup a trial streaming account so I can listen at work.
They play new bands, like Stone Sour, Volbeat, Five Finger Death Punch, Halestorm, etc. (Can you even consider Stone Sour new? Corey Taylor made Stone Sour before Slipknot )
As for concerts, the whole idea of festival concerts have killed it for me. All of the Monster Energy - Mayhem traveling festivals. They try to jam in as many bands as possible, I'd rather have it be longer sets of bands I actually care about. I'd love to goto Rock on the Range, but it's never ever close to us.
Waiting on NIN to announce their tour....

The Hipsters have ruined it all for us.
Most Rock! thats played on the radio is just middle of the road crap, like Bon Jovi that really just sounds like easy listening. I'm not a huge Rock! fan, but I do appreciate it.

What about Stone Sour? Or H.I.M. DH likes Swedish melodic death metal which is actually nothing like the name. But the radio in NY sucks. When I travelled all over the US for work there was way more rock on the radio. Maybe that's why they have more festivals in Kansas than NY.

not a fan of stone sour or HIM...but I really wish skycamefalling would do another reunion show. An old friend of my husbands has a death metal band called Korotory...they're pretty good if you're into death metal, check em out.
I also miss artists like Jeff buckley. we need that kind of talent again. That kind of passion.

It's Volbeat, Stone Sour and Device (David Draymon from Disturbed new band) weekend on Octane.
They all put out new albums on Tuesday.

We have the new Volbeat - it's very catchy.
My husband has been talking to David Draiman all last week on Twitter - he was in Tx. working with David Mustaine. Somehow he caught his attention.
Oh yeah - what about Ghost? You don't like In Flames?

I like almost anything they play on Octane.
Including that stupid remake of the Rhianna song.

I think we are due for a "music" revival. Not just Rock. Music in general. So many underrated artists out there and all the mainstream stations play is "shake this, let me slap that" etc. Then all of a sudden they will try to get "cool" by playing Mumford and sons or something...

We saw 3 Days Grace and Pop Evil at House of Blues last night. They were good, they play tomorrow at the Paramount if anyone is interested. For 25 bucks it is worth it.

I just saw this amazing Doc called "Sound City" and it was made by Dave Grohl. It was so incredibly interesting & Dave Grohl is so damn funny, it makes him hot.
Plus, Trent Reznor & Josh Homme are easy on the eyes too!

It was a great documentary. IMO, Mantra (the Grohl/Reznor/Homme collaboration) off of Real to Reel is the best off the album. But since it's purely instrumental I bet it won't get any play.
Check it out.
If you are a Foo Fighter/Dave fan and haven't seen "Back and Forth" yet, put that one on your must watch list.

I agree, Mantra is the best track on that album.
How about the singer from Slipknot?!? I know he did some solo acoustic stuff, but that voice!
I've seen Back and Forth as well. DH is a huge Foo's fan.

Corey Taylor is a powerhouse.
Everyone writes/wrote him off since he got popular by wearing a mask - but Stone Sour is a great band.
As is Slipknot, if you can hear the music and get past the jumpsuits and masks. We saw Slipknot at Metal Montreal last year, Slipknot and System of a Down were headlining each of the days. Slipknot was amazing, and crazy - 2 hours of adrenaline. I've never seen 70,000+ people jumping in unison before, everyone was so into it.

I'm bumping this thread, just to reiterate the greatness of Pop Evil.
We've seen them 3x in the past 6 months, including a drive up to Albany last night after work. They are THAT great. They're one of those bands where you don't realize how many songs they have that you know, until you're standing there.
And they're just into it. We saw them with 500 people in the crowd, we've seen them with 4000 people in the crowd, and they put 150% in each time.
I hope they go a long way. If you have a chance to see them - do it!

I watched this like ten times after I got it on DVD I love Dave and the Foos. One of the best live acts I've ever seen.
