Would you get a cake with hazelnut filling for your DC's 1st birthday?
Considering nuts is something you need to hold off giving to babies, would you be wary of them eating cake with hazelnut filling?

never thought about that, but if there were other options, I'd go with the other options.

I wouldn't. Maybe I'm biased because my DS is allergic to peanuts and tree nuts.

If you insist on doing it, please give him a little hazelnut three days earlier, then the next day, and the next. You have to know if he's allergic to nuts before you give him a whole piece of cake.

I'd be worried about other kids eating the filling, too, if this is for a bday party.

I wouldn't get a hazelnut filling for a cake for any occasion.
So many people have nut allergies.
I couldn't risk that.

You're right. I'll save the hazelnut for my birthday just a few days after ds'! Only DH, my parents, & older DS will be having some.

I would not, especially if other young children were eating it. They may never have been exposed to nuts before and you just don't know. Most people I know with known severe nut allergies would not eat a store bought cake period so I would be more concerned with those who have never tried hazelnut before.

I wouldn't because of allergies... However I know my nieces are obsessed with nutella ( hazelnut/cocoa spread) so even though a kid may like it i would just be weary that a kid might be allergic.

I would. My kids have been eating Nutella since like seven or eight months. There is a Nutella product at basically every holiday/event we goto. We have a huge family and no one has a nut allergy. At preschool no one has a nut allergy. Guess you have to know your audience. I.wouldn't like bring it to the playground and hand it out or something.

I wouldn't risk any type of nut at that age. Especially not at a birthday party where there may be other children eating the cake. Plain chocolate or vanilla is what I would order.

no way! Although I am a scaredy cat with allergies. DD's 1st bday cake was nut-free and egg-free. It was also almost dairy-free (she had alot of problems with dairy and we resolved them just before her bday!)

I wouldn't. My kids don't have nut allergies, but, I wouldn't risk it with others. There is such a high rate these days of nut allergies.
Enjoy your bday cake!
(hazelnut filling sounds good/interesting).

Re: Would you get a cake with hazelnut filling for your DC's 1st birthday?
Nope. Regardless of family allergies, you never know what guests have allergies, and there are also a lot of people who just don't like hazelnut. I'd want to get something more universally appealing. Also, my DH hates nuts, so it just wouldn't fly in my house.
