Party after a 3pm Sunday Christening?

Our church only offers Christenings at 3pm every other Sunday.

I'm not really crazy about the idea of a Sunday night party. I figure the earliest I could start it would probably be 5p?

So 5 - 8p or 9p on a Sunday?

Do you think people will mind since most have to work the next day or get kids ready for school?
I tend to like to be home Sunday night resting/preparing for the week.

What would be your reaction?

Other ideas of working around the 3p timing??

Is this common? I'm kind of bummed.

I feel like other Christenings have been earlier but this church has a lot of masses.

Of course, the most important thing is the sacrament. I've just had some party flops before and was really looking forward to a nice party for my babies (twins).

Party after a 3pm Sunday Christening?

If it were me I would send the invitation or whatever and have it say dinner and cake will be immediately after the service at XYZ. That way if people want to be in and out they can. I guess it depends also on how big you are planning it to be. This is what we did and it was very nice. Everyone went to the service and then a brunch.

I think it's fine & you shouldn't worry about it at all. A baptism reception after a 3pm ceremony isn't late for a Sunday at all! Happy planning & God bless!

Re: Party after a 3pm Sunday Christening?

We had our DS Christening on a Sunday and I felt the same way however there was no way around it. The church was at 2 and we did a 4-8 party. I pushed for the cake to be earlier and for things to move along quickly at our reception so people could get in and out. It worked out fine and my thought was if people didn't want to come they could refuse. Everyone ended up coming and we all had a great time.

I'd just say dinner reception promptly following....

We had ours a little earlier.. we ended up shortening the apps so we could get dinner out. We had Zorns delivered around 430 so everything would be out by 5, they came a little early which was perfect, and I think I had dessert out sometime around 630.

I just had my dd christened a couple of weeks ago and it was a Sunday at 3 pm also...the ceremony was really quick, there were 5 babies and we were done by 3:45. We took some pictures after and were at the restaurant a little after 4...I thought it worked out great at that time because it was actually dinner time when we ate

Both of my DC were baptized at 2PM (Im pretty sure that was the time).
I did the invites and then did "Reception immediately following at...".
We were done by 7PM (the latest).
(they were house parties).

I think it'll be fine. You aren't asking people to be out until 10-11 on a Sunday night. I wouldn't worry. Just enjoy it!

Have a dinner reception following.
Dinner at 5pm is perfect.
Even a party til 9 is good on a Sunday.

Since the Christening is at 3, it's probably over at 4. Maybe you can have the party slated from 4-8 and start it when you get there (or 4:30)? I only say that because I worked at a catering hall and people tend to go straight to the reception immediately after the church...

I really like this idea a lot.

If I got an invitation to a party that went to 8pm or 9pm I wouldn't mind or think it's a bad time or anything, but I would probably have to leave early.

ETA: I also like the idea that the pp mentioned of having it at 4pm and then just getting there when you get there. After ds' christening most people went right to the restaurant & the party didn't start for another 30 min. so I wish that I had done something similar.

Re: Party after a 3pm Sunday Christening?

I think it's fine. We just had DD's christening on a Sunday in December. Chruch was at 1pm the reception was at a hall. Cocktail hour started at 6:30pm everyone left after cake at 11:30pm. I guess I am the minority I don't see any issue with having a late party on a Sunday. We had about 150 people.
