Need help! Anyone have a sucker that hates the pacifier?

Hi all,

My 2.5 month old needs to suck to soothe, but she gags on the binky. I've bought every pacifier on the market and she hates them all!

I EBF and when I try putting her to bed at night she wants to stay on my boob forever. When I take her off, she wakes up and starts to cry and nothing consoles her but putting her back on the boob. As soon as I do, her eyes roll back in her head and she's out again. It takes a few tries and about an hour and a half to get her in her crib.

I cannot continue to be her human pacifier, but she's too young for cry it out. What do I do?

Other than this, she sleeps pretty well. It's just really hard to get her to sleep. Once I finally get her down for the night, she'll sleep a six or seven hour stretch most of the time.

BTW, I followed the stupid guidelines of not giving her a binky for the first four weeks to avoid nipple confusion and I wish I didn't do that!

My 8wk old will take a binky but he doesn't love it. I have the same "human pacifier" issue.
I have figured out that if I put a few drops of gripe water on it, he will take it without a problem. He usually spits it out once he is drowsy enough to fall asleep. HTH!

I was having the same problem with my little one. She is going to be 2 months on Tuesday and she just started liking the Mam ones. We tried them once before and she wouldn't take to them. Then I bought ones and Walmart and she actually use it now. Good Luck.

DD is 3 months and has hated all pacifiers since day 1! Ugh so hard and we tried over and over again especially during her witching hour but no dice! Now we are glad she doesn't take one bc we don't have to worry about it falling out at night or her losing it or eventually weening her! So it was a hard few months but it will pay off!

So she eventually found her hands and sucks on those alot! But in the meantime I would let her nurse for 45-60 min until she fell asleep. She has shortened her eating time to 25 min now and I can place her in the crib when she is good and full and she is out cold but sometimes she cries for a few min and then she is out. This took awhile but keep working at it! Don't worry it won't last for ever! I say keep doing what you are doing and it will get easier very soon!

My boys are now 2 and 4. Both of them hated a pacifier and didn't take it, no matter what brand!

Overall, it was much better for us. DS #1 just learned to soothe himself on his own, and having a lovey around 6 months to put in his mouth helped. Ds#2 just self soothed, and both of them learned to fall asleep on their own without an issue. Never had to cry it out, or get up at all hours to stick a pacifier back in their mouths. Also, I have friends that are having a tough time getting their kids off them at ages 2, 3 etc.

I had one of those. Then we found the tommy tippee ones with the silicone nipple (not the latex) and she loves them! She's also EBF and a real pain with any "artificial" nipples but she loves these. Good luck!

This might sound silly but what about it you give your little one your pinky to suck on? Hopefully she will suck for a few minutes and then fall right asleep so you can move her right to he crib.

I had the SAME situation with DD. Tried everything out there. She is 10.5 months now and she never took to a binky except for a little bit when she was teething- nothing really to speak of. She was and still is a crap sleeper. Wish I had better advice!
