Hypocrites On Gun Control?

Looking at the other side of the coin on gun control, someone took the PSA that celebrities made on gun control & added in a few scenes they thought were missing:

(profanity & violence in the video)

Re: Hypocrites On Gun Control?

This has me laughing because of the hypocracy.
Guns are glorified, especially so in movies.
But it's only pretend and the actors are getting paid.
Unfortunately, kids don't see that, nor do those who are mentally impaired and resort to gun violence.
They see guns as empowerment.

Re: Hypocrites On Gun Control?

I have no problem with the point they are making...just sucks that they went about it with the cursing and once they added the word "wh*res" I just shook my head. There was a valid point to be made here but it was lost in delivery, I think. or at the very least lost value.

I personally don't really BLAME movies bc people need to know the difference between real and fantasy. I blame the REAL news media more than I blame movies because they have 24 hour coverage of the same gruesome details of stories and they focus on the murderers, post pictures of bloody scenes and dead people...REAL dead people. They exploit children by interviewing them in the middle of a crisis and they CONSTANTLY COMPARE one tragedy to the last, which in my mind only plants a seed in the weak, sick mentally ill minds of people considering doing something like this that they need to do "bigger and better" if they want to "stand out" (sick I know)

but I do think the PSA was making a point of how these people support roles with excessive violence and then call for an action to end violence. Some of those clips weren't even movies if i'm not mistaken...they were those actors using real guns on their own time, so that does seem a bit hypocritical...However, calling for a plan doesn't mean "nobody can use guns" it can mean a wide range of things. MY issue is more that I feel focus has been placed SOOOO much more on the guns themselves rather than helping the people behind them. Guns are inanimate objects until placed in someones hands...and it's then up to that person what they will do with it. Most people don't intend to kill another human...most people obey laws and understand the seriousness of taking another human life. We need to help the people who don't. We need to get to the ROOT of the problem...and the root of the problem is not an inanimate object.

I'm pretty sure it was a PSA that was edited by a second party with scenes from movies & shows of those actors using firearms, which is hypocritical. It's like saying "Hey folks, I can play with guys, but don't you because you're not responsible enough."

I know it was a secondary edit. I just hate that they said "hypocrites and wh*res" there was no need for them to call them wh*res. THAT is where I feel a point that was valid lost it's value and as someone who is pro 2nd amendment...things like this make our "side" look bad because they couldn't convey a point without unnecessary childish namecalling. Thats my only real issue with it.

I totally agree that it is hypocritical! (although the parks and Rec scenes were hunting scenes - not killing people - I would give them a break)

And we pay these people millions and millions for creating this culture and yell that the teachers are greedy when they are paid a tiny fraction as a professional.

ITA that using wh*re at the end did blow the message a bit at the end. Would have been so powerful without that.

I think the problem is that young people, without the mental skills to distinguish between fantasy and reality, are being exposed to excessive violence on TV and through video games. You or I know that what we watch is not real, but until a child reaches a certain age s/he does not.

Think about how kids believe in Santa, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy etc. LIttle girls long to meet the Disney Princess, and little boys want to meet Captain Hook (or Captain Jack Sparrow) etc., as if they were real people and not make believe.

Of course young children should not be watching violence, or playing video games with violent content - but the reality is, they are because not every parent on the planet is responsible.
