Do toddlers/kids need a firm or plush mattress? So confused!
This is turning out to be more complicated than I expected. I can't seem to find a straight answer anywhere. I have always heard that firm mattresses are better for your back but that is in regard to adults. I sorta figured it would be the same for kids but I've never really heard anyone mention it.
Last night we went to Sleepy's to buy a mattress for DD, who is not yet 2. The salesman told us that we definitely want a plush mattress and that since she's so small a firm mattress would just be uncomfortable. He went on to say that you don't even need a firm mattress until you hit 150 lbs.
I've done lots of googling but I can't find anything written by anyone who sounds like they know what they're talking about. I don't know if this salesman really knew anything, he's a salesman, not a doctor. Ugh! I just want to buy a mattress and call it a day!

Re: Do toddlers/kids need a firm or plush mattress? So confused!
We bought our son a twin size mattress from Sleepy's in September. Our sales person said we needed a firm mattress, so that's what we bought.
I guess it's ok for my DS, but it's too darn hard for me to sleep on. I had to buy a foam eggcrate mattress pad thing just so I could lay down with him.
So I honestly have no idea what is best.

Firm. They go from a very firm crib mattress so they're used to it anyway. My DS could sleep on the floor fine. Don't know how, but he can and has done it. Lol
