Another CIO question... for BTDTs.

DD is 6 months.

Bedtime is 730. Wakes once btw 2 and 4a, drinks almost a full bottle, then back to sleep until 730-8ish.

Currently eats cereal and a fruit or veg plus around 27 oz formula per day.

Should we try CIO or because she's drinking almost 6 oz in the middle of the night does she NEED that?

It's not that bad for us b/c she'll go right back to sleep after eating but I just want to encourage good sleep, kwim?

Another CIO question... for BTDTs.

When is her last bottle?

DS is 8 months but we haven't fed him in the middle of the night since he was maybe 3 months old. I believe by this age, your DD should be able to make it through the night without a bottle. Maybe try pushing her last bottle a little later or add a little more to each bottle?

How many times a day does she have cereal and a fruit/veg? At that age - DS was having cereal with one container of fruit/veg in the morning and evening, and fruit and veg for lunch. He does wake occasionally in the middle of the night and has a bottle but, he can make it through the night (usually he wakes up when teething).

Re: Another CIO question... for BTDTs.

She has about 4-5 tbsp oatmeal mixed with formula in the AM. It's a pretty thick consistency.

About 4-5 oz fruit or veg around 4PM.

Last bottle is right before bed, it's part of bedtime routine.

I was thinking that I should add a third meal. So she'd have breakfast, lunch, and dinner with bottles in between.

She's not too young for that?

Re: Another CIO question... for BTDTs.

She was consistently finishing 6.5 oz bottles so I just today bumped it up to 7 oz.

Re: Another CIO question... for BTDTs.

It is very normal for a 6 month old (or even a 1-2 year old) to wake at least once (or more) a night. It does not mean your baby is a bad sleeper or that you are encouraging a bad habit. Just because some babies can go all night without a feeding doesn't mean yours is ready for that. Every baby is different. I wish my 5 month old woke *only* once a night! Good luck Momma!

ETA: Most baby sleep problems are not actual baby problems, rather just a problem for parents because it interrupts OUR sleep.

Thank you for this!

It really isn't a problem for us because it literally takes 20 minutes to feed her (that includes warming the bottle and burping her) and she goes right back to sleep. I just didn't want to be encouraging a bad habit like you say.

And it breaks my heart to hear her cry - ESPECIALLY if she's hungry! Like, what kind of monster am I to starve my infant!?!

So thank you, I'm not ready, she's not ready - we'll probably never do CIO. Chat Icon

ITA- although DD is 7 months.

Especially with the amount she's drinking. It's not as if you're giving her a tiny bit just to get her back to sleep. She's taking a full meal!

Another CIO question... for BTDTs.

Just wanted to add that at 6 months I added the third meal. I would give DD Oatmeal mixed with fruit for breakfast, Yogurt for Lunch and then Oatmeal mixed with Veggie for dinner.

We just added the third meal at 8 months since we waited for solids until six months so he's a bit behind but anyway since we added that third meal he no longer wakes up to eat in the middle of the night. He normally wakes up around 6 am because he's wet so I change him then nurse him back to sleep. The third meal has been life changing lol.

I would (and have). As long as there are no weight issues. Stuff them up right before bed and CIO. GL
