Toddler doesn't "call" for me
Ds is 18 months corrected and if he needs something he'll just whine/cry. He doesn't call "mama" or "dada". If he needs something to be opened he brings it to one of us to help, but, let's say he's in his highchair and wants out he just whines.
He does ask for water, milk, crackers. If he doesn't say the word for something he wants he points to it and lately if he wants to watch yo gabba gabba he brings us the remote.
He does say mama and dada btw, just bot when he needs help. Since DS was preemie I find myself worrying about everything, especially speech/communication. The ped is never concerned and says he's perfectly on track, but I just can't helps myself.

Toddler doesn't
I wouldn't worry. DD is almost 21 months and within the past month she just starting "calling" for us. She has been able to say mama and dada for a long time but never intentionally, kwim?

DS is 26 months and only started calling for us the past 3 months or so, if that. It's become more consistent over the past month.

DS didn't call for me until after that too. He actually had no words at 18 months except NO!

DS doesn't do that either and he's 17 months. A long as they are starting to say words, babble and mimic you're fine. I was worried with DS 1 bc he never did. He was also speech delayed, but I was more worried about no talk over calling to us. Now at 3.5 I hear "mommy" all day and even at night. Believe me it'll happen. They know who mommy and daddy are, but just not verbalizing it yet.

Re: Toddler doesn't "call" for me
DS did at 11 mon, DD 17 and ever since she has she has not stopped, mama, mama, mama. Each will do it in their own time. Don't worry as long as there are sounds and some words.

Re: Toddler doesn't "call" for me
I think its fine too. however I would talk to your pediatrician if you think its a problem. Your pediatrician should give you info on what to do.
DD could only say a few words and so I was worried. we had other concerns as well. She wasn't pointing or making her needs known at all. so we had her evaluated and she was DX with pddnos. so she is getting services right now through early intervention.
many people told me she was fine and that all children work at different paces. So i was going to wait until she was 2. Instead I went with my gut instincts and had her evaluated at 18 months and was so glad that I did not wait.
If you really have concerns about it, I would talk to your ped about it. or if you still feel uneasy about ask your pediatrician about getting your dc evaluated. i don't think its going to hurt them all. If they need services they will get it and if they are right on track then you have peace of mind.
but i am sure everything is fine. most 18 month olds don't really call for their mama or dada i don't think. every child is different.

Toddler doesn't
DD does this 50% of the time. it really doesnt sound like an issue at 18m especially if they know how to get what they want other ways and use other words and language.
my DD was also a preemie so i understand how you feel. im always told they are all caught up by 2 and my DD is 19m and i already feel she is 100% caught up if not slightly ahead in some areas. we still see a developmental PED once in a while too since she was a NICU baby, and they've always said she is at or above where she needs to be, which is always reassuring.

Thanks all for your replies!!
Flowerwife- my son also saw a dev ped. She said we didn't have to come back unless we had concerns, which is good.
Just another quick q for you guys. DS has about 25 or so words. He hasn't started putting words together yet. he says the words he knows regularly, but like he's identifying everything. Like he just learned the word door, so he goes up to a door and says "door" or when he sees bubbles/bubble toys "bubbles" or when the dog walks by hell say "Charlie"

That's very good for an 18 month old. I'm pretty sure I remember hearing that they want them to have 18 words at 18 months.
