Those with 3 kids or more

Please recommend your car!

I have 2 in convertible seats now, and I would like to have 1 more DC someday (if I can convince DH Chat Icon ).

My lease isn't up until September, but I'm starting to think about what I should look for in my next car.

Right now I have a Honda CR-V. DH thinks I should get a mini-van, but I'm not sure I'm ready for the mommy-van.

Re: Those with 3 kids or more

I have two and am pregnant with my third, but I often have three in my car...I have a VW Routan. We love it...it has all of the extras I needed in a vehicle, is safe, and is pretty darn convenient. I was a hold out on the minivan but my husband insisted and it was the best choice for us.

I have a Buick Enclave (which is also along the same lines as the GMC Acadia and the Chevy Traverse)... I have an infant rear-facing in a convertible seat, and my 6 year old DD in her booster seat, both in the second row Captain's chairs. My 8 year old is in the 3rd row. I keep the 3rd row split, so he sits in the seat and the other half is down for more cargo space. I often have full use of the 3rd row and my stroller fits back there fine. I have no complaints at all.. well, except maybe the 20-gallon gas tank and the price of gas!

Re: Those with 3 kids or more

We have 4 kids...didnt want the mini van but actually do love it right now...easy access to all the kids, plus i can just press a button from inside the house and the older 2 run into the car as I get the others in. We are on our 2nd lease of an odyssey. Its really great for young kids!

That being said, cant wait for 2 yrs from now, when this lease is up and kids r older...we will be movin on up to an Armada or something of the sort

We have a Nissan Quest.
I don't like it. I did at first but the novelty of it wore off.

It's HUGE, but there's really not a lot of room. No automatic doors.

I would not get a mini van again.

I was reluctant, but took the jump to the minivan, and I LOVE it! I have a Town and Country. Stow and go seats, automatic doors and trunk, navigation, dvd, rear camera. My 5 and 2 years olds get in it by themselves, no problems. I have a second row bucket seat folded down, so I have a changing area in the back. Great price!

I have a Pilot with two kids. If I were to do it again (and I'm not having more kids) I would get something like the Acadia where it's easier to access the third row.

Re: Those with 3 kids or more

I have 3 kids and a Honda Pilot, honestly wish I had gone for the mini-van instead but we love the 4x4 capabilities and we can take the Pilot on the beach.

All three are in the middle row, and they fit pretty well. Sometimes I'll put the 4yo in the 3rd row but that has him with part of that seat folded down and I feel like he's cramped.

When I was researching the Pilot vs Odyssey, I found a video of a 6'+ guy evaluating them for backseat room. His advice was to go with the Odyssey if you have tall people in your family because he felt cramped in both the 2nd and 3rd rows of the Pilot.

I have a pilot. I don't love it with the carseat situation and I only have two kids right now. We will be getting an odyssey next year. I need dual sliding doors.

Re: Those with 3 kids or more

I am in the same boat. I have 2 DC and am on the fence about a #3.

We have a CRV now and I am torn between a minivan and a larger SUV like the Pilot or Acadia.

I am considering the Odyssey and Sienna but the thing holding me back is that I keep my cars a looooong time, and I'm not sure I want to drive a minivan for the next 10 years, lol. I also need AWD because of where I live, and the Odyssey doesn't come in AWD but of course I prefer the look of the Odyssey to the Sienna.

Good luck with your decision! It's not easy!

Pregnant with #4, I have a YUKON which is not big enough. It has no cargo space, so I am getting a Suburban.

Re: Those with 3 kids or more

I would recommend getting something with captains chairs in the second row for easy access to the third row. I have three kids and the Volvo XC90 which does not have this setup, and I can't wait for our lease to be over so I can get either the GMC Acadia or possibly the Yukon XL or Chevy Suburban if I can get a deal. It's just too hard to get to the third row with a bench seat in the second row.

Re: Those with 3 kids or more

Thank you for all the advice! I'm going to look into all the suggestions.

I sat in/looked at the VW Routan at the Jones Beach Airshow last year when I was pg with DD2 and I loved it- but I know its $$$$.

So- I guess I'll have to do some pricing.
