Diaper Change at Daycare

My LO is 19weeks. I feel her daycare is not changing her enough. She is there for up to 10hours. They change 3-4 times a day

How ofter does your LO get changed?

The reason why I'm asking is because she's been having her clothes changed almost everyday because they get dirty from pee and or poo. This does not happen at home.

She wears a Size 1. Do you think it's time for a size 2?

TIA

Re: Diaper Change at Daycare

At my daycare they follow state regulations which I BELIEVE is every 2 hours or so.
I don't recall the exact number because DD is in the toddler area now and it's more about trying the potty etc

But for infants I remember they would change her like every 2 hours- need it or not. Even if it was dry they would have to do it and note it

And of course if they smelled a poop, they would change immediately, regardless of the time.

Re: Diaper Change at Daycare

It could be time for sz 2 but if its not happening at home with you-- why there? But check the weight for sz 2 and your DD and go by that.

I would also request that they check her on an hourly/ 2hr basis.

DS gets changed at least every 2 hrs (unless he's sleeping at change time). If he poops - he gets changed immediately.

How big is your DD? It might be time to move her up to the next size. Even though size 1 says they go up to a certain size - in my experience, I've found that my DCs have outgrown diapers once they hit the minimum weight in the next size up.

Could be the diapers, because Juliet doesn't have this issue and sometimes I don't change her ALL night (12 hours!). She's never leaked. At daycare they change her about 4 times a day and she's there for 9 hours. They change her way more than I do at home!!!

The rule at DS's daycare is every 2 hours. It's possible she's ready for the next size up.

Re: Diaper Change at Daycare

It could also be the timing of bottles and diaper changes, for example if she woke up from a nap they give a bottle then change her she could be over saturating an already wet diaper. My sister was doing that with her DD and I suggested changing the baby then giving a bottle.

Do they tell you what times they change her? Is there a schedule in the room?

DS started at his school at 14 months. They still had a changing schedule. If they stuck to it, I don't know.

Maximum of 2 hours but usually more often. That should not be happening! I would speak to them about changing more often.

Every 2 hours, as per the state, unless DC is sleeping.

My question to them would be is this:

WHY are they waiting so long to change her after her naps?
Her diaper should definitely be checked/changed after her naps.

We used to change the kids every 2 hours (more of there was a bm) and we'd check them after naps. If they woke up dry, we HAD to write "dry" on their chart!

Diaper Change at Daycare

My daycare is every 2 hours, unless she is sleeping or has a BM. I found that whenever DD would leak out it was time to move up a size. And you can not go by the weights on the diaper boxes. DD always had to move up well before she reached the weight limits.

YOU'RE RIGHT!!!!!!!!

The way they have it logged in on their system is all over the place. This is the first time I've been able to notice.

They are definitely waiting too long to change her diaper - it seems the average they are doing is 3 hrs unless there was a reason.

If DS 2 is due for a diaper change when I pick him up (it's been 2 hrs) they will change him for me before we take the two minute trip home.

Exactly! I always changed before and after naps at that age.

ITA, I have my DS in pampers swaddlers and they hold a lot. Could also be the size, I switched DS into size 2 when we was around 11 lbs approaching 12 lbs.

If it only happens there and not at home, I don’t think it’s the diaper size. They are just not changing her enough.

Our daycare checks/changes diapers every 2 hours, or immediately if there is a poop.

Def time for size 2. You will see a noticeable difference with the leaking/blowups

Re: Diaper Change at Daycare

DD was leaking a lot in the size 1s when she was 10lbs even though size 2 says it starts at 12lbs. So far I like pampers the best. I've only had leaks with luvs and huggies.

Do they write down the times of the changes for you? If not ask them to. 4 changes sounds like it could be ok, but not 3 changes. My DS leaked when he was ready for next size but I would imagine that would happen at night and on the weekend when she's home with you too.

IMHO it should be change feed nap and changed right after nap. Does that make sense? They need a better schedule for her. Her naps and feedings vary a lot. Routine is pretty key at 5 months.

Re: Diaper Change at Daycare

Im a licensed provider and have worked in daycare for 10+ years. I change babies/toddlers every 1.5 - 2 hours and immediately when they tell me/smell poops. I would bring this up to the teachers attention that you would like your baby to changed more frequently. Also I always change every body before and after their nap. Seems strange they are waiting so long to change her after she wakes. . As far a size in diaper check the weight on the packaging and see if the diaper is snug and going up high enough on the belly and back.
