At 1 she had her bday cake. We saved all sweet treys for then. I think we gave her a cupcake a month before her first bday and she didn't know what to do with it. Haha
Now she knows and wants it at 21/2 but she only gets that stuff at celebrations. She's only had I've cream a few times when we were at friendlys. Cookies I buy only sometimes and they are usually aunt Annie's bunny ones.
We try not to keep it in the house but everynow and again my dh and I will get ice cream but she's never had it at home so she doesn't know what it is and never sees us eat it.

Re: What age did you let your child have sweets - cookies, ice cream, donuts?
DD is 16mo, and has had ice cream once (She LOVED it!) maybe 3 months ago. Never any cookies or donuts or chocolate. She had a smash cake at her birthday, but she wasn't a fan and only had one smidgen of icing.
She has just taken a turn and has become a super picky eater, so I am glad she hasn't had more sweets, becasue I have a feeling that is all she would ever want to eat (and it is hard enough to get her to eat her veggies/proteins). I usually only eat sweet snacks after she goes to bed, so she doesn't know what she is missing!

When my 1st son was about 7 months old, my husband decided to let me sleep in. I came downstairs around 9am and there was an empty friendlys peanut butter cup sundae on the coffee table. I was like "whats this?" My husband replies "Oh the baby loved it!"
I almost died, not only did he have icecream but peanuts at 7months!! lol

I think DS tried ice cream around 9 mos and the other stuff around a year (he was slow to adapt to table foods).
Of the things you listed - at almost 3 years old, he will only eat cookies and munchkins. He has a cookie or two fairly regularly and munchkins usually at class parties at daycare.

OMG! Your husband's response is so funny. I need DH to slip DD some peanuts becuase she is 16mo, and I am still too afraid to give them to her!

I am very relaxed about things like this, so well before his 1st birthday with a lot of sweets.

We went to Disney when DS was 11 mos... He had ice cream, cookies, slurpies, cake, etc... Every day, several times a day!
I have a redic sweet tooth, so DS will very often have a nibble of what I'm having. I consider him my diet. LOL He's 15 mos now.

Re: What age did you let your child have sweets - cookies, ice cream, donuts?
I tried ice cream early on b/c it was soft and cold. when teething was real bad after the first year i tried it. But DS wants nothing to do with it. Even now at 3, he could care less about icecream.
i started letting him have cookies when he was just over 2. its a treat.
now that we potty trained I had to bribe him with M&M's which were like gold to him b/c he never gets candy other than a lolli here and there. (and then i had to wean him off the M&M's..lol)
