Low BM Supply

So it seems my supply is getting low, I use to have over supply and after I went to work, I guess the inconsistent pumping times has messed up my supply, I need to try to do something to boost it. I try to pump every 3 hours since my supply has been so low.

This morning (7:30) I pumped my left breast and got 5 oz and DD woke up early so I fed her on the right side while I pumped. When I got to work I tried to pump at 10:30 and I only got 1oz from my left side and I switched and pumped the right and switched again alternating breasts because no milk was coming out. At the end of 30 mins I pumped 2 ozs.

DD usually is napping when I get home so I pump and I usually get about 2-3ozs. When she wakes I feed her, bathe her and around 9 she feeds again but becomes VERY fussy and I think its because of my low supply. My DH and I give her a bottle at 11 since she cries when I try to BF and I think its due to low supply (my breasts are deflated)

I'm planning on pumping after I feed her to help stimulate my breast to produce more. I started to eat oatmeal, and I wanted to get some mother's milk tea.

Does anyone know how long it takes for Mother's Milk Tea to kick in and any other advice to get my BM supply up would be really helpful.

Fenugreek will help you produce more.

This. I always thought it was a myth, but I swear if I eat oatmeal for breakfast a few days in a row I notice an increase. Maybe just by an ounce or 2, but it's something!

DD is 3 months old and is drinking milk like there is no tomorrow she will drink about 20 oz a day. we have a good freezer stash but thats starting to dwindle since i've only been pumping about 10-13 oz a day at work.

Re: Low BM Supply

I had the same issues, not pumping enough at work and her getting fussy if I nurse her shortly after pumping. Try "power pumping". Basically set aside an hour and pump 10 minutes on ten minutes off for 3 cycles. Do this 3-5 days in a row and you should definitely see an increase. I had great results with power pumping. I try to do it every weekend whenever I can. Also, when you pump, continue for 5 minutes AFTER no more milk iis coming out. This tells your body that more milk is needed. As far at Mothers milk tea, I put 2-3 teabags per cup 3X/day.

Good luck!

Re: Low BM Supply

my dh drinks 15oz at daycare. i nurse her first thing in the morning, when she gets home from daycare and when its bedtime.

I pump 10oz at work. I'm able to pump 4-5oz in the morning and another 4-5oz between my pumping session when I get home from work and before bed.

I will say oatmeal does help ( not instant) and the tea. Oh so does Guinness.

I was lucky if I got 7-8oz at work but that has went up. My night pumping went up too.

Do you drink water?

Re: Low BM Supply

Oatmeal helps me. I eat a bowl of steel cut oats everyday.

Are you pumping both breasts simultaneously, or one at a time?

Sounds like you have a single pump? It may be worth investing in a double so that you can maximize your time and I found that it also helped with letdown.

Low BM Supply

I have a double pump but my hands free bra became too small after my milk really came in. I guess I will use the double if it helps with let down.

I drink through out the day, at work I have a water bottle and fill it up at least 3 times a day, and when I'm at home before pumping I have my water bottle sitting next to me since pumping makes me thirsty.

I have the simple wishes bra and it has velcro on both sides of the back panel so that you can really get a lot of adjustment. I know it would suck to have to buy a second one but it may be worth looking into a new one.

I second the simple wishes bra. I would be lost without it. I have been exclusively pumping for my preemie twins for 15 months. Oats, fenugreek, blessed thistle, a hoppy beer, and fennel worked for me. Also pumping much as possible. Power pumping is awesome and a hospital grade pump if you can get your hands on one. The difference with a hospital grade is astounding.

After you have exhausted everything else, (hoping it will work). I used domperidone. Fm me if you have questions
Good luck
