At what age...

At what age did you or your child give up the following:

-Morning Bottle/Cup of Milk before breakfast
-Nighttime Bottle/Cup of Milk before bed

My DD will be 21 months and we are still in the routine of giving her a cup of milk when she wakes up in the morning before breakfast and a cup of milk before she goes to bed each night after dinner.

She is really good about drinking water throughout the day and she will have some milk during the day at day care too.

I think DD would be indifferent to dropping the morning/nighttime cups of milk but if I do that then her milk consumption would drastically drop.

Re: At what age...

DD is 2.5 and she really has no routine.
She never really did though- so you can't go by us.
She asks for milk when she wants it, water when she wants it, food when she wants it.
There is no schedule.
It's all on demand.

Sometimes she asks for milk in the mroning or evening but usually not.

Re: At what age...

DD just turned 22 months yesterday and is still getting morning milk and bedtime milk. It's been her schedule forever so she expects it. I don'tt really have a plan to stop anytime soon.

At what age...

He gets his milk with breakfast and dinner, not before he eats. I always have a cup of water for him throughout the day.

That's where I'm at a loss because I am not sure she expects it. She knows its our routine but she never asks for it. Sometimes its a chore to get her to drink it.

Re: At what age...

DD stopped drinking milk all together when we took away her bottle at 18-19 months old. We tried every sippy cup known to man and she refuses. She's now 2.5 and ONLY drinks water. Won't even TRY another liquid. Odd child.

She gets her calcium from other sources (daily yogurt, cheese etc).

At what age...

16 mos. she stopped the bottle and then refused milk thereafter.
She does have cereal most mornings, and yogurt and cheese everyday.

DD still takes 3 bottles (at 15m old): before breakfast, sometime around 11, and sometime around 3:00. She hasn't done a nighttime feeding since I weaned her at 12m.

If you're worried about milk consumption but don't want her having a nighttime bottle as a crutch, can you just change that bottle/sippy to a different time of day?

Re: At what age...

DS is 3 and still gets a cup of milk in the morning (most mornings anyway) and one before bed. He doesn't eat any other dairy so it is milk or nothing... My friends kids still like a glass of milk before bed and they are 7 and 10! If she is fighting with drinking it, I would drop it...

Re: At what age...

DC is 10 months old and we plan to start next month phasing out bottles and introducing milk. We did the same with previous DC. Previous DC was off bottles and formula by 13 months. We will get DC used to milk first just throughout the day but not at bottle time. Once DC is used to it, we get rid of the mid-day bottle first and give a full up of milk with lunch and eventually we do the same for breakfast and dinner, eliminating the morning and night bottle. After that, it will probably be the same. Everyone needs a drink with their 3 meals, so DC gets milk. Good luck!

Re: At what age...

around 12m, we replace milk before breakfast with yogurt.

around 18m, we dropped the bedtime milk

around 26m, we reintroduced bedtime milk, I think it helps him get to sleep, but we have milk, then brush our teeth and give him some water while we read before bed.

DD never took a bottle but we give her milk with breakfast, lunch and dinner. In between she has water. I'll sometimes give her her milk in the morning before breakfast is ready but that's just because I figure she's thirsty. I know I'm thirsty when I get up.

When DD dropped bottles at around 15-16 months. Then she got milk along with her meals as well as mid-morning and mid-afternoon.

dd is 2 1/2 and she gets 1 cup with breakfast and 1 cup before bed.

I am thinking about changing the last to with dinner and cutting her liquids down after that so we can potty train which will hopefully happen soon

Re: At what age...

DS has not had milk at night before bed since oh I'd say 1 yr.

He has milk usually 3 times a day with breakfast, with lunch and with dinner. Sometimes for lunch or dinner he has water instead.
