Nanny Agreements

If you use a nanny, do you give her paid sick days? How much vacation, and do you make her take vacation when you do, or can she take off whenever? We finally found a good prospect but want to make sure we have a fair arrangement for days off that doesn't also inconvenience us too much in having to find alternative care.

DH and I both get 4 weeks vacation, so in theory she would get all of those days off too...but I hear 2 weeks is standard.

Re: Nanny Agreements

Our Nanny gets paid all holidays that I am off for. In addition if I take a day here or there that I don't need her we pay her.

She gets 2 weeks vacation paid - she picks one and we pick another. If our week vacation is a liittle over a week I will still pay her. She also gets off any days during Christmas week that I'm off.

She is wonderful and I want to treat her for that.

Re: Nanny Agreements

It's totally up to you and your nanny to negotiate, but this is what I agreed to with my former nanny.

2 weeks vacation. 1 of which has to be the same time as I take mine. The other can be a week of her choosing, subject to either me or my husband being able to take off from work.

5 sick days, all federal holidays.

Since I get 4 weeks of vacation, if there is a week that I am off from work and is neither of her vacation weeks, I still ask her to come in (although it may be a shorter day/week) so that I can run errands, get things done around the house, go out or whatever. Or she will clean one of those days for me if she isn't watching the kids. She will help me reorganize my closets, the kid's rooms, etc. she was pretty flexible like that.

Whatever you do, get it in writing, signed by both parties so there is no misunderstanding.
