Parents of 5 YO girls...we are you getting your DDs for Christmas?
DD just turned 5 and I'm at a loss what to get her for Christmas. She has so many toys here she doesn't even play with.
Part of me is torn...Christmas morning growing up always equaled lots of gifts under the tree. The thing is DD really doesn't play with toys much (besides Barbies..and she already has a ton of those). She's more into music/drawing so I don't know if I want to waste money buying crap that she won't play with. She is already getting an easel has a piano and drum set.
Suggestions? Thanks.

If she is not into toys get her what she is into. To a 5 year old a gift is a gift. Mine is as excited to open a doll as she is a new dress. If she likes music and art I would get a couple of things and wrap that. If she is not into those things she will probably be happier getting what she does like over some dolls just to give some toys.

DD is obsessed with Lego Friends, so there will be a few sets under the tree. She also loves board games, so I got a few more since the basics seem too baby-ish for her now.

We are in the same boat as you. DD has everything! This year she kept saying she wishes she had a stage so that's what she's getting. We are cleaning out a corner of her playroom, putting down those fake wood tiles, bought her a stand up mic and will put up curtains surrounding the "stage". We'll set it up xmas eve so she'll get a note from Santa to look in the playroom. We also got her a few things to open, a bean bag chair, some strawberry shortcake stuff, books, kiddie camera, paints and markers.

Parents of 5 YO girls...we are you getting your DDs for Christmas?
We're in the same boat here! We asked DD if she'd rather have toys to open or to go see a show, she said she had enough toys and wanted to see a show (preferably a ballerina)
So, we got her tickets to Disney on Ice, a camera (cheaper point and shoot) since she outgrew the "kiddie" one, a hello kitty playset/book combination, 2 cheap barbies, a DVD she asked for and some board games.........
her and her sister share all the toys, they have the same interests so jointly they are getting and easel w/ supplies, Muppets DVD, some new dressup clothes to replace the worn out/ripped/destroyed stuff, they're each getting a new fleece throw, hats/mittens.
They're having a lite year this year from us/Santa.

My DD is the same way. She doesn't really play with toys. She loves activity books and there are a ton out there. Cutting/matching/tracing letters/gluing/hidden pictures. I got her 4 new ones. Also
the Melissa and Doug "make a face" or "Make a person" stickers activity things.
Puzzles.
2 new Wii games .
Board games.
Brain Quest questions
She would rather that stuff over toys.
Does your DD like to do crafts? ALex Toys makes a bunch of cute crafty stuff

My DD is actually 4, but I got her some barbies, a DreamLite (penguin), a Cinderella dress up outfit, the Brave bow and arrow. I still have to pick up some paints. She also doesnt play with many toys, but this is the first time she asked for Barbies. I hope they don't just get tossed in her toy box.

Thanks everyone for the great ideas. Yes she loves crafts and drawing so maybe I will get her some craft kits. She also likes board games so I will do a few of those.
The stage thing idea is so cute and DD would love that but I don't have the room for it.

Maybe make a craft center...buy all kinds of supplies...glitter glue, puff paints, water colors, pom poms, pipe cleaners, watercolors, different types of markers, stampers, etc. That will last her a long time and sounds like things she will put to good use. My dd is twelve and still loves to craft.

I just got home from Michaels and filled my cart up with craft kits- they have some really cute ones!! I plan to do some more damage at target & toys r us... DD goes through her art supplies soo quickly! She can never have enough! :)

from Santa shes getting a big barbie house and car.
other then that, some craft things, puzzles, an Olivia board game and a ken doll since she dosent have one.

She is into American Girl so I got a few thing from there. I also got her the Barbie dream house because I feel like it is a rite of passage.

DD'sbig gift is the Barbie Dreamhouse.
She is getting some other Barbie stuff, a camera, spy stuff, walkie talkies, Razor scooter, makeup kit with light up mirror (for dress up only), pajamas, the walking baby alive, some clothes, a couple activity sets and a few other things I can't remember.
