infant car seat vs convertible from the start

I like the idea of using a convertible right from the start so we don't have to buy another set later on...

BUT

Having the carrier to take baby in and out of car is convenient. For first baby we used a carrier but bought a convertible car seat later...

Which is best in your opinion?

TIA!

infant carrier then a convertable. Think of all the times the baby may fall asleep in the car and you just hop the infant carrier out of the car.
You can place the infant carrier in the back of a shopping cart so you don't have to drag a stroller and a cart around the store.

My boys we had in the carrier until 14 or 15 months. It was very conveinent

I would go for the infant carrier. The convenience is great. Do you still have the infant carrier from your first? Is it expired? Most seats are good for 4-5 years, so you might not have to buy a new one, just the convertible.

I was going to just go straight to the covnertible but was talked out of it by co-workers and I am glad I went with the infant. THe convertible even though they say it is good for small babies they still swim in the big seat.

I was also able to take DS anywhere! If he was asleep - no problem off we went. I was never stuck home cause he was sleeping. In the carrier and to the mall, diner whatever.

I got the small one that only went up to 22lbs. It fits nicely in the booths at reastaurants where friends who had the bif ones had issues sliding them into the booths.

The one we had from our first DC got damaged when we had some water damage to the basement (mold on the seat) so we had to throw it out. It would be 4yrs old anywhere, so probably better to get a new seat...

We do still have two Graco infant car seat bases left though

I loved that carrier.
If she fell asleep in the car we wouldn't have to disturb her
Now forget it- she finally falls asleep and the second we get home she is wide awake from being taken out of that seat.

Plus I just loved the convienience- for example- in bad weather- I could get her in that seat in the comfrot of my house- instead of struggling with the straps in the freezing and the snow and rain- with my azz hanging out the back of the car and my skirt riding up.

I wish I could have kept her in that infant seat forever!

this! I know they are both safe for infants but I just loved that I could easily transport him- especially because he fell asleep in the car every.single.time.

I didn't like the infant car seat... With our 2nd child we went straight to a convertible (Britax) and loved it!
