kiss my grits "healthy sleep habits"!!! lol

Before the storm we started sleep training ds who only sleeps swaddled in rnp. Before storm he was in his 5th month. Today he is 7 months and we moved crib into our temporary home. I did it wrong at first and put him down asleep but he slept for an hour before screaming. So I went and gave him paci and shhh'd etc. He sat up wide awake smiling and cooing so I left. Crying started again so I st by crib so he could see me. He calmed down and got sleepy on and off or wide awake etc. So I left him there for 30 minutes thinking he would pass out. Hahahahhaa. The bllod curling screams!!!!!! So by 1230 am I of course gave up and swaddled him in rnp. But he is tooo big for rnp now and busting out of swaddle so I am getting desparate. Even in rnp and swaddle he wakes up multuiple times a night. We always have white noise etv going on. I don't mind a little cio bu I think 30 min of very intrnse screaming is enough. But then what? Let him sleep on me all night on the couch??!! Shoot me and call it a day. Any suggestuons? Tia!!

kiss my grits

Can you stick with the swaddle and try the crib. The transition from the RnP to a flat surface was rough and I would only try changing one thing at a time.

They will also go through stages where you might have to do the sleep training again....growth spurts, disruption in their schedule etc.

We are not in our house DS is super cranky and I think part of it is the change in everything.

I know you have a lot going on right now so I dont mean to come off harsh ... but your approach hasn't changed and neither has my advice.

I think you are making too many changes at once and setting yourself up for failure.

If you don't want to put him in the crib swaddled then get him used to being unswaddled in the RnP, then make the transition to the crib once he is sleeping unswaddled in the RnP.

If you want to transition to the crib and don't want to do full CIO then calm him at intervals, but keep up with it. Keep your eyes on thr goal. Don't take him out of the crib.

Put him in the crib and let him CIO.

You are not doing yourself or him any favors by constantly giving in to him after hour of crying.

Be confident in your parenting decisons, he will know when you are not.

I agree with this.

I was fortunate in that I followed Healthy Sleep Habits and it worked for us.

You have to be consistent for naps and bedtime. I know listening to your baby cry is the hardest thing in the world but you both will be much better off in the long run once he is sleep trained.

hi smurfie. You are right. I feel stuck. I did take ur advice and try unswaddled in rnp and when it didn't work I gave up. He is just soo overgrown in the rnp that I am not thinking straight. Ughs

Its hard. Believe me I know. When we moved him out of the RnP I caved a bunch of times. I finally just did it and suffered a few hell nights. But it was worth it. SUffer through cause the other side is wonderful!!!!

You have to be totally ready for CIO. I couldn't do it until DD was 9 months old. With all the changes going on, I would try a sleep scak in the crib when you are ready to CIO. We did lose the swaddle/CIO all at once (yes i swaddled her until 9 months old LOL) so as to not have to keep going through transitions. I also found it better to have DH do the "shushing" and soothing as she wasn't lloking for him and would just get riled up when I would come in (we did the intervals things when she cried). Hang in there!

Same exact situation here. I was crying right along with him. It was soooo hard! thank god for DH, he kept me from going in.

But, every night it got better. Chat Icon

I love this statement! I agree with a lot of what others said, so I will not repeat, but its amazing to have a child that sleeps. DD sleeps 8pm to 8am and it's beautiful to have some quiet time at night and even some time in the am on weekends to get stuff done (im up early on weekends bc im so used to getting up at 530 for work that 7 seems so late, lol)
