any one up - help with gas!

It's 1:45. I finally got DD to sleep - crossing fingers! She seemed to have a great day. She had a bottle at 7 and again around 10. She never napped after the 7pm bottle and got increasingly fussy. We gave her a dose of mylicon with each bottle. I've also massaged her tummy to help with the gas movement. I could just tell she was over tired, in pain from the gas and by 12:30 hungry too. This has happened before but does not happen every night. Any tips? She's on RTF enfamil premium infant, I usually give mylicon at night for good measure.

Re: any one up - help with gas!

It may be time to try am formula for gas. We used Gentlease and it helped DS with his gas issues. Not much else you can do now. How old is she?

Re: any one up - help with gas!

She's 8 weeks this week. I've tried gentlease once before and she didn't seem to like it. She kept pushing out the bottle until I offered the regular formula. I was thinking of switching, possibly by mixing the two until we can make a complete switch.

It is thinner and tastes a bit different. I think Gerber makes one too... It is so hard when they can't tell us anything.. Mixing the two may work also..

Re: any one up - help with gas!

I know. My son had a milk protein allergy/soy allergy. And reflux.. We finally got his formula issues straightened out at 5 weeks old and his reflux kicked into full gear.. Then we had to find something that worked for that.. There are a lot of formulas out there. Have you tried Gripe Water?

Re: any one up - help with gas!

I have tried gripe water. I'm just not sure how often i should be using it. It was recommended to me to put it in DDs bottles throughout the day. Is this what I should do or give it to her as needed?

My DD didnt have any reflux problems but, when she has bad gas and is crying from it we give her the Little Tummies Gas Relief drops...it is instant relief for her...and us too, of course!

If it keeps up for another dat or two, I would buy the rtf gentlease and mix for a few bottles and then switch over completely. It took a day or so before DS fully accepted the gentlease, and about 4-5 days before he seemed to become a completely different child.

Good luck, and I hope you were able to get some sleep!!

Re: any one up - help with gas!

My DD is breastfed but DH gives her bottles and we switched the bottles to the platex airvents and we defrost the breastmilk in the bags instead of bottles so we dont have to shake it. The shaking causes the bubbles.

you can also try some gas massages, it worked on DD. I found that this woman's youtube videos are very helpful.

My DS had gas and I switched to Gentlease. The gas drops and gripe water did nothing. THe formula helped and time. He grew out of it. It was hell for the first 12 weeks and we got very little sleep but they do usually grow out of it.

Maybe try Dr. Brown's bottles, they are supposed to be better for gas. For my DS, I had him on Sim sensitive then I had to switch to the Alimentum and he did a lot better.

Ugh! I hope I don't need to switch formula... I have a lot of unused formula. But I will do what I have to.

Re: any one up - help with gas!

I was having the same problem with DS. I took him to the dr last week because he literally would scream in pain after we fed him. The doctor but him on nutramigen and he seems to be happier this week. He still has his crying fits but he's not screaming in pain after feedings. I also used gripe water when it's particularly bad and it helps a little bit but not completely.

any one up - help with gas!

At around 6 weeks I started giving DS (at most) one ounce of (baby) water every day and that seemed to help a little, most times it was mixed with gripe water.

ETA: I also switched to Dr. Browns bottles.
DS has always been on Similac RTF (and breast milk when I could). He had bad reactions when I tried to use powdered formula.

COCYNTAL!!!! It's wonderful Chat Icon

It is an all natural colic medicine. My son did not have colic, but he was on gentlease and had bad gas. Every time he had a belly ache we gave him the cocyntal. He was better within 15 minutes. He is now 2.5 and we still give it to him to ease stomach aches.

Everyone I suggest it to loves it...it works a zillion times better than Mylicon or gripe water, which I didn't find to work at all. Good luck!

Try out different bottles too. She may just be getting too much air sometimes. If she is burp her longer to get most of the air out.

And if you do need to switch formula, there are plenty of people that will buy it!

We use similac sensitive for fussy and gassy babies. Helped a lot with gas. We use playtex drop ins and mam bottles. I use biogaia probiotic once a day in her bottle ( pediatrician tod me too) and little tummies gas drops as needed.

Re: any one up - help with gas!

My DD had the same issue around the same time. We switched to Similac Sensitive but honestly - I think it was just a phase. Just normal baby stuff, responding to their bodies and whatnot.

Also try bicycle kicks with her. Move her legs like she's pedaling a bike.
