Vaccinations *help*

So I was never against vaccinations, but after seeing the post on the congressional hearings about autism, I'm a little freaked out! (Well a lot freaked out). My 2 1/2 month old DD slept SIX hrs last night, and I only slept 4 bc of this!! Anyway, my pediatrician already knows we are spreading out shots, but we are going on Tuesday for her first shot. After researching online a little last night, I almost don't want to do it. I don't know what to do, and I'd like to know what others have done? This is my first DC and I've been so upset bc It's so stressful knowing she relys on me to do my research and keep her safe!!

Also, my family has a history of learning disabilities, so when they talk about some autism rates as being genetic as well as being triggered by enviromental factors, this scares the crap out of me. (I might be over reacting right now, but I guess I need someone to tell me that)

It's sad to say that although I love my pediatrician, and she came highly recommended, I don't trust many MD's saying the vaccinations are safe. So I'm hesitant to bring this up to her, bc I feel like I know her answer...

Anyway, do I have any alternate options?

Tia if you made it this far.

This is always a hot topic but my PERSONAL opinion is this............the advantages and benefits of being vaccinated FAR outweigh any of the risks. I would not feel at all comfortable sending my child into the world unprotected against all of the diseases that are out there, particularly with such an influx of foreigners into this country.

I was vaccinated as a child as was my DH and I wouldn't feel comfortable knowing that we are both protected and my DD was not. Therefore, she has had ALL of her vaccinations on time as recommended by my ped. I didn't delay or space anything out. She is 4 and except for maybe being a little tired or having a low grade fever here or there after getting a shot she hasn't had any issues whatsoever with getting her vaccinations.

It's a personal decision but IMO, children should be vaccinated. I think to not give them any kind of protection against diseases that are now preventable is doing them a disservice. I know many won't agree but that is my take on it. Good luck with your decision. Chat Icon

You have to do what you are comfortable with. I think if you have certain risk factors, it can't hurt to maybe do a modified schedule. I do think its important to vaccinate, though.

I believe in the benefit of vaccinations. Like PP said Dh & I have our shots..why shouldnt DS be protected against diseases. B/c so many people are not vaccinating, herd immunity is going down and outbreaks of measles, whooping cough, etc. are happening.

Modify the schedule. Do 1 shot at a time if you have to. Do what you feel comfortable with.

Explain to your ped about the history in your family and your concerns. I dont think there is any harm in spreading the shots out.

As a teacher who has worked with many (100+) students with autism over the years, I can honestly say that I plan on vaccinating my children (I am pg) on schedule and on time.

There is just no correlation between the two, either in professional studies or in my real life experiences. It is very easy to blame the vaccinations because all kids are supposed to get them. I have also seen many cases of kids who do not get vaccinated and are still diagnosed with autism. IMO, the risk of a child getting one of the illnesses is not worth a risk where there is no evidence.

At the end of the day it is a personal decision, but I would implore you to research beyond the mainstream.

Autism's False Prophets is a fantastic read on the topic.

This site is VERY Pro-Vax, so I wouldn't go bt Lifamiles! Do your research & come to your own decision!

Dr. Blaylock is amazing

skip the intro & go to 3min and I highly recommend watching all parts!

Read Dr. Sears the Vaccine Book

Another book I liked is:
link

Read medical journals!

visit Dr. Palvesky's site (he's a LI dr who gives many seminars on vaccines in Manhattan & on LI, he also has a practice in the Northport).

Re: Vaccinations *help*

It is one of the toughest decisions that we as parents have to make. Anyone who doesn't feel that it is a difficult one, clearly hasn't done the reading. There are a plethora of ingredients that are known neurotoxins (formaldehyde, polysorbate 80, thimersol) and other ingredients which just provoke the immune system in disturbing ways (monkey blood, dog kidney cells, human fetal tissue), and then far more ingredients that the body launches an antibody response to, as it should, but then we feed our kids the same stuff (eggs, dairy, soy) and wonder why there are so many more allergies now then back then. There have also been multi-million dollars in settlement money going to families of vaccine-injured children. And many, though not all or even most, parents of children with disabilities will tell you that there child was typically progressing until getting a vaccine. And this may or may not coincide with the MMR and the age range for which autism tends be be observable and therefore diagnosable. Injecting those ingredients into a sensitive human can and does cause real problems...from allergies, to autoimmunity...to learning disabilities...to seizures...to autism..and a slew of things in between. But what if you don't and your baby gets hospitalized for pertussis. Or worse, dies. Well...there is a growing body of literature now suggesting that having the antibodies to viruses and bacterias is NOT sufficient for preventing disease. Most vaccines are temporary at best, and none provide 100% protection. In fact, in all pertussis outbreaks, a multitude of children were vaccinated....upwards of 80% of them. It's a terrifying decision as a parent. I don't know what to say to you. There is no right and no wrong way. Just make an informed choice. Then you have done the best you can by your child. And you are correct....pediatricians are not the only source of accurate information and they should not be blindly trusted. I wish you lots of courage. The fact that you're asking questions, gathering information and feeling ridiculous amounts of anxiety are good signs that you'll do what's best for your baby. Parenthood is full of hard and scary decisions....from how to soothe to how to protect. Best wishes to you through this crazy journey.

Re: Vaccinations *help*

Vaccinations scare me I had a tough time with these decisions also but the diseases scared me more! (Some diseases baby's/infants can die from these diseases) more people are not vaccinating and we will probably be seeing more outbreaks. It is a hard decision but a personal one for you and your family! I wish you a lot of luck but do what your gut/heart is telling you to do.

Also have to keep in mind ~ Vaccinations are also not 100% I was pregnant with DD last year and I got the flu vaccine but I landed up getting the flu while pregnant in May (past flu season) I was hospitalized for 8 days. Do you know how many times I was asked in the hospital so you didn't get the flu shot? I of course said yes I did but still got the flu ~ although my Dr said if I didn't get the flu shot I could have been worse off.
