Maybe try playing her music and bouncing her. Try all different kinds. Lullabies did nothing for DD but Party Rock Anthem always put her to sleep! You could also try wearing her if you have a carrier.

It's not bad it is just extremely hard.. My DD barely slept when she was a newborn and still doesn't sleep much as a 7month old. She would be awake for the amount of hrs they say she should sleep and slept for the amount of hours they said she should be awake for. Even though she was tired she was too nosy and thought she was going to miss something, guess it's a girl thing.

Re: Baby as been awake (without a nap) for 6 hours...

Is she fussy now? If she's not fussy, just ride it out.

White noise worked (still works) for my DD when she was overtired.

eta: Telling her over and over again "stop fighting it" and "help me help you" doesn't work btw.

Not a girl thing LOL my son is still like this at 16mo. It's so frustrating.

Bouncing & butt taps or swinging worked for him

Can you go for a drive, is that a possibility given where you live?
I'm so sorry Bonnie, hopefully she'll sleep for you soon!

A warm bath may help. Is DC gassy? Usually when DD is like that she is gassy. I rub her tummy, do bicycle motion with her legs while she's on her back, burp her and I also give mylicon drops to break up the gas.

She has been asleep in her swing for 25 minutes!

Can I keep her in the swing?? I know they say (whoever 'they' are) that you should only use it for 30 minutes....

Try the miracle blanket as part of the 5 "S's" .
1. Swaddle (tightly)
2. Suck (pacifier)
3. Swing (actual swing or rock in your arms)
4. Side lying/ Stomach positions
5. Sushing (white noise or shhhhh, shhhhh, shhhhh sound that you make)

It is from the Happiest Baby on the Block book. I found it really helpful. Also Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child is a great book. It stresses putting the baby to sleep after an hour and a half to two hours after the baby has been awake. It also highlights "sleepy" signs to look for. The goal is to get the baby to sleep before he/she becomes over tired.

Good luck!

Yeah!

At 6 weeks, do whatever you have to! Generally speaking the quality of sleep is not as good if they are in motion. You can slow the swing down and then just stop it all together if you want.

Keep her there. DD is almost 5.5 months old and still takes her best naps in the swing.

Yes, it is awesome

Also, I would let her sleep in the swing as long as she sleeps...my son is almost 5 months, and this is where he takes most of his naps!

I think that's BS. FWIW, DS1 napped best in the swing. He'd take 3 hour naps in there. DS2 sleeps in the swing all night. My pediatrician is aware of this. The only thing he says is to work on getting DS in the crib, but he has never made me feel bad about putting either one in the swing for long periods of time. I know at some point it may be tough to transition him out of the swing, but it's working for us right now.

Well "they" can suck it because there is no way I'm waking up my baby from the swing and risk my own sanity. I'll be a much better mother without a straight jacket

DD was like that.. wait she is still like that! Its a battle to get her to sleep.. she fights it tooth and nail. Wails and screams every time she has to sleep. She thinks if she sleeps, she's going to miss something.. little does she know, mommy is waiting to to hit the sack the minute she sleeps.
