Anyone else's kid care less about Elf on the Shelf?
This is the first year we are doing it. DH and I read the book with my DS, he could care less and doesn't even want to look for the elf at all. He turned 3 in August. He either seems to have no interest or maybe he just doesn't "get it"yet.

I'll be honest..I wish we never started it. I hate it. It's one more thing I have to remember, and they don't care about it all that much. It was fun for a while last year but this year, I don't know...old Elvin has lost his charm and mom is getting tired of finding new hiding places, lol. My 6 year old keeps asking "is he like really real?" and I keep saying yes. LOL. hard enough to explain Santa let alone a little fake looking doll!!! LOL!!

I'm utterly against it. At thanksgiving my cousin's MIL was just RAVING about it.. oh so awesome etc. I kept my mouth shut until she asked if AJ had one. um, no, they creep me out and I consider them just spooky and evil. Besides utterly against the whole xmas theme. What's it about Santa's sneaky elves eavesdropping or the spirit, etc.
Meh.. not a fan

Haven't tried it yet with my 2.5 yo but I'm not sure I will. I think the whole Santa thing is enough of a charade, I don't know if I could manage the whole elf thing! Seems like too much work.

We don't own one. I am just not interested in ANOTHER thing to do for Christmas. We have enough traditions.

Re: Anyone else's kid care less about Elf on the Shelf?
I am the opposite.......I love it. It's a fun little tradition and this year we started having our elf do silly things instead of just moving around. (There are a ton of Elf on a Shelf ideas on Pinterest) My DD is getting a kick out of it, she loves waking up and seeing what antics he was up to during the night.
She really "got it" last year when she was 3. Before that she had no clue. Maybe try doing some fun things with the elf instead of just moving him around to keep your DS interested. So far our elf has TP'ed the dining room, he drove through the kitchen in Barbies convertible with Ariel on his arm, tied a string from the curtain rod to the Xmas tree and swung down on a candy cane, and put together one of my DD's puzzles. I am having so much fun with it this year.
ETA - There is also an Elf on the Shelf tv special that is really super cute. Amazon has it if you can't find it in the store. That might get your DS more interested.

Ditto. Our favorite Christmas song line is "You'd better be good for goodness sake" (although the he sees you when you're sleeping thing is really creepy... ). If DC are good just for goodness sake, they don't need to have something spying and tattling on them, or have rewards dangled in front of them one month a year. I want to save the threatening with little spies for when DC are teenagers, and I threaten them with cameras hidden around the house if they try and sneak out in the middle of the night...

Re: Anyone else's kid care less about Elf on the Shelf?
We love it!! We started it last year right after DS turned 2 and he definitely got it. He'd actually scream "Elf" when he was doing something good. He was still calling for Elf in February.
DS just turned 3 in Oct and our Elf is out again. He looks for him in the mornings. He's pretty good but when he's having a moment, I remind him that Elf is looking and he usually stops whatever he's doing that he shouldn't be. DH wanted to bring the elf out in October, lol.

Re: Anyone else's kid care less about Elf on the Shelf?
We have the Elf on the Shelf. We only took him out of the box 3 nights ago.
Last weekend when my son was misbehaving, my DH was telling him that Santa was watching and he see's you all the time, when you're being good and being bad, blah blah blah. It was harmless banter, but hearing him explain to my son that some man was watching him 24/7 sounded really creepy!
I don't want my son to be afraid that some man is spying on him, especially since we've met Santa at the mall already. I thought the Elf was an easier sell (at least for my sake) because he's really just a doll and harmless.
We don't and wont get into all of the creative things our Elf can do. No fancy poses. No mischievous activities. By last night (night 3!) I completely forgot to move him.

Yep. Same here. DD could care less and now I feel like I am stuck doing it. I hate coming up with new places to hide it. I am actually waiting until 2 weeks before Christmas to do it. Doing it now - Christmas is too far away.

My oldest loves it. My youngest is a little afraid, but she's afraid of her own shadow.
I think it's a cute thing to do with your kids. But if your kids aren't into it, thats fine too.
