My heartbreaking Thanksgiving

Let me start out by saying that I'm a single mom and my children are my world as all of yours are to you I'm sure.
On Thanksgiving evening I found out something that left me completely devastated and heart broken.
My daughter told my brother (her uncle) that her afterschool babysitter hits her and her brother ( my son) with a fly swatter when they misbehave. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I decided to pull my son aside privately to ask him if she did this and he said yes.Chat Icon
When I tried discussing this with my daughter she got very nervous saying "please don't tell ____ I said anything" for fear that it would happen again. She then told me that said babysitter also makes them squat with their hands in front of them as punishment and calls it "boot camp".
Needless to say I'm devastated and have been scrambling all weekend to make other arrangements. Thank goodness for my family for pitching in until I can find something more stable and healthy.
I cannot believe my babies are treated this way. I'm not sure why I wrote this, probably mostly to vent and maybe a few Chat Icon 's
Why didnt I see this sooner? I should have picked up on this, I'm so mad at myself for keeping them there this long.Chat Icon Chat Icon

Did you confront the babysitter? I would have put her on her place and maybe even involved the cops. If she did this to your kids, she can do it to the next.

I have not confronted her YET!! I will there is NO doubt about that. However I should mention that she lives 2 doors down from me and my exDH is afraid of retaliation. I'm not sure I want the cops invovled but rather Department of SS to launch an investigation into her " daycare". She cares for other children as well and I plan on telling their parents too.

I am so sorry this happened...I would also make a police report and press charges. That's child abuse and I would never want it to happen to any other children.

If you have a police report and she does retaliate, you just keep calling the police every single time. She should NOT have a day care. I would also tell every single other parent.

I would not rest until her daycare was shut down. Good for you for making sure every parent knows what she is doing!

This is so scary and sad at the same time!! I hope you do involve the police at some point. This woman needs to be reported and have a record of such abusive behavior. I hope every single parent pulls their child from this horrible woman! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: My heartbreaking Thanksgiving

First off.. YOU DID NOTHING WRONG!

Secondly, congratulations for not tearing down to her place and ripping her face off. Because I’m pretty sure I’d be fit to be tied by that point.

If she runs a ‘daycare’ heck yeah report her. I’d want to vomit when I saw her again. A fly swatter? Seriously? Sit on your hands? Jesus.. people here complain about me and my discipline over the past 4years but I would NEVER EVER hit my child with an instrument and no way would I pull that crap of sitting on your hands as ‘boot camp’.

If I found out ANYONE ever treated my child or any child like that I’d lose it. I reported on a teacher in our school picking up a kid roughly (I had a thread) and she was fired. I feared retaliation, sure, but I feared more what that woman would do, is doing to other kids. I felt my fear was outweighed by the guilt I would feel of letting any child suffer at the hands of that woman.

I’d seriously sit down with my daughter and make sure she knew I wasn’t angry at her for telling the truth. Its ok. Next time, just tell mama because no one is supposed to hurt you darling. No one. Mama is here to make you safe but you need to tell me. Oh god I’d try not to cry. Heck just typing this makes me want to cry. But you need to make her feel empowered to tell the truth and know to come to you with any of this. No one hurts my baby.

ITA. Now is not the time to want to avoid confrontation. This needs to be an exception. She cannot be allowed to do this to other children in the future and her business needs to shut down ASAP!

Oh it took every ounce of control not to rip her from her sleeping bed and beat the snot out of her. But I soon realized that will in turn get me in trouble and we don't want that either.

I have made a report with CPS this morning. I want her SHUT DOWN!!!

I'm so glad you called CPS! She should not spend another day "caring" for children. That is so awful. I'm glad your children spoke up, I know that can be a scary situation for them. Don't beat yourself up for not knowing, how could you have? Clearly the other parents who's children she watches didn't know either. I hope CPS shuts her down ASAP!

I am so so so sorry.

Personally, I would not confront her myself. I would press charges and get the police involved. I would give them the names of the other parents and let them conduct the investigation. I would tell them my fears about retaliation.

I am SICK over this. I am so so sorry. It's so hard leaving your children with ANYONE and then there's sh!tty people out there like this.

One thing you CAN be thankful for is that your children are old enough to verbalize to you what happened. Chat Icon

OMG I have chills. I am so sorry you and your children are going through this! I'd be telling every single parent who uses her. Glad you called CPS. Take it as far as you can so she'll hopefully never have children left in her care again.
