Anyone going to Macys Thanksgiving Parade?
We never went to it before but we are highly considering it . I am a lil worried that we wont be prepared for the chaos that may come with it so looking for any advice or suggestions based on people's experience. What is the best time to show up to get a good view- I thought maybe at least an hour or 2 before it starts? Is it better to drive in or take the LIRR? Any chance we can get a decent standing spot near 34st or is there a better less crowded area on the parade route?

We went once, never again. You need to get there at like 6am to get a good spot, and then be prepared to stand in that spot until the parade is over.

Yikes Thats what I thought. Thinking seeing the balloons being blown up the night before in person may be a better option and probably just as exciting for the kids without the hassle

The parade has a new route: it is along 6th avenue that is significantly wider (both sidewalks and street). I think the views will be much better.

Anyone going to Macys Thanksgiving Parade?
A few years ago we went to the balloon blow up but my kids fell asleep and missed the whole thing. Dh works along the parade route so we went to the parade but watched inside from his buildings. Kids absolutely loved it. We had great views and were comfortable. I don't think I would ho unless I could watch from inside again. Too crowded and cold. It was. Definitely chaotic outside.

Horrendous. If you don't get there at 6am at LEAST- you won't see a thing. It's usually freezing. It's crowded to the point of feeling claustrophobia. The best place to watch that thing is from your couch. I will NEVER subject myself to that again.

I agree with all of this.
I went once a few years ago and that'll be my first and last.

Never and never will. I'll watch from my couch.
The only parades I will go to are Giants & Yankees.

No, never will. I don't handle crowds very well. I'd rather watch from my couch with a nice bloody mary or spiked coffee in my hands.

I went about 11-12 yrs ago with the guy I was dating. The weather wasn't great so it put a damper on the whole experience. But I would love to go again. DH would never go.

This. I have done it 2 times. We got there super early. and you don't see everything like you do on tv. You won't believe how the cold travels through your layers of socks. People were trying to push their way through to get in front.
I am glad I did it just to say I went. But then again I was 17 and 18 at the time. 20+ years later, I am glad to watch it from the comfort my living room.

Depending on where you are... things take forever to get to you to see. so if you are at the end of the parade route, it doesn't end at 12PM. I remember just standing there and the same float is in front of you for a while before it moves.

Anyone going to Macys Thanksgiving Parade?
No desire. I'm usually not even awake to watch the whole thing on tv and I'm ok with that! I will catch the end if I'm awake by then.
