ETA: Obviously these people are ridiculous. I personally think good for the person who created the tumblr but I am wondering, like Catey, if anyone thinks maybe this is going a bit too far or anything along those lines?

Which part do you think is awful? The existence of the tumblr? (I'm genuinely curious, because I see how this could upset people but at the same time if these people are willing to put their information out there and then post these words publicly, well, isn't that their responsibility?)

Yes. The existence of the Tumblr.
Honestly? The tweets were disgusting.
I just feel like kids don't really grasp the vastness of the internet. I think this is going to lead to BEYOND a hell of a wake-up call. This probably will lead to physical violence.

I think it's ALL horrible. However, as a previous poster mentioned they all look like KIDS...many of them don't even know who they are yet...they simply emulate what they see around them. It's stupid of them to post these things...especially re: assassination attempts online...but it just goes to show you how naive they are of their actions. I don't agree with posting the information of where they live / work...all that does is put a target on them. Racism will ALWAYS exist...ALWAYS. Posting their info only serves to escalate the situation to a point where people can be hurt and even killed over some stupid misguided words they made as a minor.
I think the intent behind the Tumblr seems just as misguided and hateful as the posters themselves. Two wrongs do not make a right.

Here is the deal...kids are stupid. Really, really stupid. And its even worse when they live in a cultural environment that voices this type of hatred. My family says dumb things. When I was a kid, I asked my father what the difference between a Republican and a Democrat was, and he told me that "Republicans want to change things for the better and supports regular people and Democrats want to take all your money and ruin the country." So needless to say, I thought I was a Republican for most of my childhood and teen years. I obviously think these comments are disgusting, but lets give these kids a chance to go to college, leave their hometowns, expand their thinking and realize how terribly wrong they are.

what exactly does "be responsible" mean though? what does this person think is going to happen? people will be physically hurt, their families who may not even agree will also be targeted, someone might even die over this. they are no doubt stupid for putting things like this AND personal info online...and if someone wants badly enough to find them based on their comments they can easily do so...but for someone to create a platform for people to easily find all the personal info pretty much INVITES people to target and or attack these people in a physical way. Thats what I don't agree with.

I tend to agree. Yeah, kids are dumb, but some of these people are already in their early twenties. Also, part of being a dumb kid is learning from the consequences of your actions. If your dumb action is to get drunk and come home puking, maybe you get grounded. If it is to broadcast your ignorance all over the internet, than you may get called out.

Yes. You can even report tweets about assassinating the president to the Secret Service and they investigate.

exactly, actually. what is the purpose of knowing their personal info besides planning to confront them? and what comes from confrontation? escalation. sure it'll scare the bejesus out of them...but chances are if someone is fueled by anger by their comments enough to find them or confront them...they're not looking to do it over a cup of coffee and conversation KWIM?
I guess I'm just not sure what the positive gain is...all i see if a possibility of escalation, retaliation, racially fuelled physical violence etc. I don't see how the TUMBLR page does anything POSITIVELY to affect the situation.

It makes me sad that they are mostly so YOUNG. I don't know, maybe it's just living in NY and Queens at that, but I'm just shocked and appalled that people still think like that. I guess I thought it was more of an older generation, stuck-in-their-ways kinda thing. But I guess you hear your parents and grandparents say it enough, it starts to stick.
ETA: As for the tumblr, I understand they put this information out there, but I am actually a little afraid for these kids. Like a pp mentioned- there WILL be backlash against them, maybe even their families. As far as schools/employers getting involved- at my office we've recently revamped our social networking policy and this would absolutely be a violation. My company's stance is you represent us and if you say something racist, it makes us look racist for employing you. I think this is ONLY if you have some sort of mention of our company on any social network (meaning occupation on facebook or even a LinkedIn account that's connected to your facebook, etc.).
