I had my car seat inspected today and they told me not to use the car seat mirror which lets you see the baby's face in your rearview mirror.

They said if you are in an accident, it could hit the baby or someone else in the car. They also said no toys at all in or around the car seat.

I thought these things were popular items, so I'm curious if you use one or did when your child was rear facing?

I feel like I will be too paranoid without being able to check on her from time to time while I'm driving.

I did. My car is always a wreck so there are plenty of other hazards even if I don't have a mirror

I did. My son had bad relux and would often gag/choke so it was necessary to see him.

This exactly. They say it's unsafe but really, I have my travel mug, my bag, the diaper bag, the stroller in the trunk, the snow/ice brush for the windows. Honestly, that carseat mirror, which is tied to the seat, is way more secure than all those other things I just listed.

I absolutely do!!! Anything can fly around in the car in the event of an accident. My mirror is tethered to the back so it's not going anywhere anyway.

Thanks for all your responses.

Of course I want to do what is best for the baby, but this seemed a little overly cautious.

I have the mirror that tethers to the top latch also. Between my handbag, coffee mug, and other junk in the car, there seems to be a lot of other stuff that could potentially fly around in the event of an accident.

This! I NEED to see DD while I'm driving. Ps- a carseat inspector told me the same thing (& I ignored him) & he also said the mat that protects the seat of the car was a "no-no" also bc carseat could slide & bc car seat safety tests were done with carseat only, no mat so with the mat it might not be as safe in a crash. I got rid of my mat but kept the mirror (sorry I just said "mat" 80000 times! Chat Icon )

I have the one that tethers to the headrest. I mainly use it to see if/when DD falls asleep. Sometimes I go around the block if she needs to fall asleep or if she just fell asleep and I want to give her a minute to settle.

I have the one attached to the headrest. I travel alot with DS and I like being able to check on him here and there without having to pull over, stop, get out and all that nonsense. If I listened to everything they say you shouldn't do I wouldnt be leaving my house till this kid was in college
