Question for moms who transitioned from breastmilk to cows milk
My DS turns one next week. A few questions for you on transitioning from breastmilk to cow's milk.
1) I should be starting with whole milk, correct?
2) How much should he be drinking a day? (when transition is complete)
3) Did you adjust their breakfast time? When my DS wakes up I always nurse him or give him a bottle of breastmilk. Should I keep with that schedule just using cows milk...or make his breakfast time earlier and add another snack time in during the day?
4) I also nurse him right before bed...should I give him a bottle of cow's milk instead or totally wean him of needed anything to drink before bed?
Thanks so much!!!!

Question for moms who transitioned from breastmilk to cows milk
1) Yes, my ped said whole milk until he turns 2.
2) I think every child is different. My DS does not like milk all that much, so he gets 4 oz. at bedtime and the rest of the day he gets water. He loves yogurt and cheese so I am not concerned.
3) DS wakes up at 7 and he eats at 7:30. He has always had his breakfast about 30 min. after waking up.
4) I nursed DS/gave him a bottle of breast milk every night before bed until he was 14 months and I weaned him. Now he is 18 months and he gets 4 oz. of milk 30 min. before bedtime. I am trying to wean him off of that, and have him drink milk from his sippy cup at dinner, but he loves that one bottle a day.

Re: Question for moms who transitioned from breastmilk to cows milk
I think a lot of your questions depend on you wanting to wein your ds. Do you want to add cows milk? Or transition him from nursing.
I just introduced my twins to milk this weekend. One of them was fine with it and the other threw the bottle Accross the room. She did better when we watered down the milk. She was not interested in a bottle that was mixed with bm either. I personally am glad to have the option of milk because it means I can drop a few pumps, but am going to make sure they get a bottle of fresh bm through the winter to help keep them healthy.
So far we have just replaced 1 bm bottle with a cows milk bottle. They have 4 bottles a day and 3 meals.
