what do you do when baby has a fever but wont take medicine?

DD is 17.5m old. she has a fever and is congested, mainly in her nose, not really her chest. i couldnt take her temp but i would guess around 101-102. i actually thought it was teething until the fever got higher tonight (still might be molars - she usually gets sick symptoms when she's teething).

i tried every trick in the book and she will NOT take acetaminophen. last time she was sick i was able to mix a small amount of water or milk with the tylenol in a bottle and she took it. this time she wanted NO part of it. i tried everything...chocolate pudding, bottle of water, bottle of milk, chocolate milk, chocolate milk with more chocolate on the nipple, using the dropper.... she either would not take it or she threw up every time i squirted the dropper in her mouth. so i dont think she got more than 1/4 of a dose if that.. she fell asleep in my arms (which she only does when shes sick) and i put her in the crib but i am so nervous now because i dont think she got enough medicine to lower the fever. i rarely get anxiety but i am just so nervous cause ive never put her to sleep with a fever without her having at least most of the dose of meds.

in the morning ill prob put it in her milk bottle and hopefully she'll drink most of it. she usually STTN, even when she's sick... any other tricks to get her to take the meds??? please don't respond telling me your kid loves the medicine LOL cause mine doesn't. ive tried different flavors too but she hates them all...

I don't have any other ideas about how to get the medicine in....sorry!

But for DS who often gets high fevers, we would always make a "headband" with two baby wash clothes and safety pins. The washcloth in the front would be wet....it would cool his head off and really helped get the fever down.

Wish I could think of a way to get her to take the medicine, but this might help a litlte in the mean time.

have someone else give it to her but make it a game by saying, "mmm, this is mine do you want to share?" a while ago my niece refused her medicine from her mommy I tried it by saying the above and she took it with no problem

Dh tried too. I think she's still pissed at him for boogie sucking her nose earlier today.

i did keep a cool washcloth on her back when she was falling asleep on my lap. thanks for the suggestion!!

My kids always refuse medicine so I know how you feel...you could try putting ice cubes in a bowl and see will she play with them and it not fill a bowl or sink with tepid water and put some toys in there so she is playing in the water and hopefully getting her temp down.

My sister who lives in europe used to use a suppository for her kids who refused medicine but I dont know if they have that type of suppository here in the US - it was a fever reducer suppository.

I do remember my PED telling me not to panic over temperatures that other than making the child very uncomfortable they rarely are life threatening.

My dd hates taking meds too. I've laid her on her back in crib, put the dropper in the side of her mouth, and then blow in her face, lol.. It sounds awful but blowing in their face lightly will make them swallow.

Walgreens sells fever all which is a suppository. DD used to gag and it was the only way to get "Tylenol" in her. Just make sure you get the 80 mg ones.Cvs only carries the larger doses

if it makes YOU feel better, i have amoxicillin in my hair, thanks to ms. thrashy thrasherson. i smelled like bubblegum all day.

I wouldn't even worry about it. It's not a high fever, I would just keep her cool and comfty. The fever is working to kill whatever she is fighting off. Hope she feels better!
