Help!!! I spoiled my 6 month old!!!

Lately DD won't go in the swing.. She fusses & then cries (real tears! Lol) & I wind up picking her up after a while. What do I do? Just let her cry & she will get the point? Like "cry it out" but in the swing? She used to be ok in the swing for short periods of time but lately she will barely tolerate it.

I also am having probs getting DD to nap during the day lately. She fights it & won't go to sleep unless I BF her or put her in carseat & drive around. Only did car thing twice, but I do give in to BF'ing her to put her to sleep often. I don't want it to be this way.. I feel like it's bad to only be able to put her to sleep this way. She used to go to sleep no prob listening to jay-z of all things but lately nothing is working.. Not jay-z, lullabies or even different ways of holding her! Helppppppp!!!!!!!!!

Help!!! I spoiled my 6 month old!!!

My DS grew out of liking the swing my 6 months. He hated it so we moved on.

Also I never forced a nap on DS. If he was tired he slept. If not he stayed up.

Re: Help!!! I spoiled my 6 month old!!!

is she extending her awake time maybe?

when Dylan was fighting sleep like that, it was because he wasn't tired yet and was extending his awake periods.

Keep a sleep log. Try putting her down 15 minutes later and see what happens.

ETA: and yes around that time i think my son started to hate the swing. He wanted more room. Have you tried her crib?

We packed up DDs swing at 5 months, at that point she wanted to be on the floor or in her jumperoo. She slept in her swing a lot but once she started daycare she had to nap in the crib. It's probably just a matter of 'training' her.

Re: Help!!! I spoiled my 6 month old!!!

The swing and bouncer seat where packed up at 6 months. DS was starting to sit up in both and actually trying to get out of them even while strapped in. You need to take out the jumperoo, exercauser or pack and play now.
I see nothing wrong with nursing them to sleep. I don't think it will spoil them. I think we stress our selves out do much worrying about forming bad habits. I was so crazy with my first born and now I have to be a little more laid back with things since my second cant be on such a schedule when you have two.
What does work for me that worked with both my kids is putting them down for a nap 2 hours after they wake up. So if they wake up at 8am then they need to go down for a nap at 10am. I always put them down awake usually with a pacifier. I make the room dark and use some kind of sound machine. ( fan, air cond, sound machine). Both of them did great with the first two naps but always had a hard time with the third one. My DS now is 7 months and he will sometimes fall asleep after eating or in the car for the third nap. Other naps as well if we aren't home. Try this and see how it works. Try not to go over the two hours though.

I guess maybe she is done with her swing. I have exersaucer & pack n play out... Guess I'll her jumperoo out also. She usually takes her first nap an hr & 1/2-2 hours after waking & doesn't give me a prob with that one... It's her others naps that she fights. I woukdnt press the issue but there r times when I know she is tired & needs a nap.

Also, she has slept through the night in bassinet since about 5 weeks.... For naps my parents always hold her bc she sleeps better (they watch her when I'm at work part time) & now I started doing this too. I tried to put her down in bassinet yesterday for her nap after she was sleeping & she woke up. Any advice in how to break this habit? I use a sound machine when she sleeps at night but not during the day... Maybe I should try that.

How many naps a day is she taking?

My girl is 9 months and only takes 1 nap a day. We try to coincide it with my 2 year old's nap. I'm pretty sure at 6 months she was only taking 2 naps.

Got rid of the swing as soon as both kids could sit up. DS would only nap in motion so he still naps in the stroller. This was a big mistake and we only nap DD in the crib.

We packed up the swing around 3 months since she started doing all her naps in the crib. We actually just gave away the bouner and RNP yesterday since she hasn't like those in a while either. DD is 6 months and if she's away, she likes to be sitting up on the floor or in the excersaucer or jumperoo. She's no longer interested in laying down to play. As for the bassinet, she may want more room now. DD outgrew the bassinet around 2 months and did much better in the crib at night.

I agree with PP that she may be ready to stay awake longer. DD went from 1 hour of awake time to 2 around 5.5 months. I always nurse her when she first wakes up (morning or nap) and then we play or go out to wear her out. I put her down with music and white noise once she's sleepy. If she doesn't go to sleep, I pick her up and we play a bit to distract her and then I'll try again after about 15 minutes. I just keep trying until she goes down. If she doesn't and it gets time to feed her again I will but I'll usually wake her if she starts to dose. I'll try for another nap about an hour later.

Re: Help!!! I spoiled my 6 month old!!!

They go through phases. By 5 months my DD wanted nothing to do with the swing. And for a very long time she would only fall asleep, whether it was a nap or bedtime, after a bottle. Eventually she grew out of that and goes down very easily now. Hang in there.

Help!!! I spoiled my 6 month old!!!

DS was done with the swing by then. He wanted floor, jumparoo, exersaucer, or mommy. He takes his best naps when I wear him. Or on my lap. I do work PT and he has adjusted to his routine at the sitter and naps in the PnP when there.
