whole milk

So this weekend we decided to start the twins on whole milk, from breast milk. At least for 1 bottle a day to see how they did. One of my girls had no issue. The other girl has no interest. She tasted it, made a face and threw the bottle yesterday. Today..same thing. So then I mixed up a 50/50 split with BM. She is still not interested and threw it further.
I'm not sure what to do. Any recommendations??
TIA

Re: whole milk

Try doing less milk & more bm. For example if she gets 6 ozs do 4 ozs of bm & 2 ozs milk. Do that for a couple of days & then increase it to 50/50.

whole milk

Go ounce by ounce, or even half ounce. Wait a few days then add a lityle more. Do it with every bottle so they know what to expect.

This is what I did after DD wouldn't drink milk the first time. Worked great!

Thank for responding. This seems like it has the potential to waste a ton of BM. I will try it tomorrow with smaller amounts. Like .75 oz of bm and .25 oz milk.

The plan is to keep them on 1 bottle a day of fresh BM through the winter to give them the antibodies to protect them. I'm a school teacher and am in contact with 300 kids a day. They are a year adjusted next week and being premies still have a major risk of getting seriously sick.

Fingers crossed that this worksChat Icon

Re: whole milk

I did it very slow. If DD was taking 7 oz of formula I would do 1 oz of milk and 6 oz of formula for 2 days and then up the milk every two days with less formula. She had no issues.

This is what we did too, and it worked perfectly.

whole milk

My son wanted NOTHING to do wtih whole milk!! We tried and tried, and after about 2 months, it occurred to me: the only liquids he ever drank in his whole life up to that point were breastmilk and water, both of which are very thin. I thought the whole milk might be too thick. So we tried giving him skim milk- he took to it right away! We never mixed with BM because by that point, I didn't have enough pumped BM to do so. So we did pure skim, then after a day or 2, mixed half skim half 1%, then all 1%, then half 1% half 2%, then all 2%, etc. up to all hole milk. The whole process only took a week or so. HTH!

This is exactly what I did. DD fought it a bit at first, but within a week or two she was fine with it and loves milk now.
