Re: Walker. yay or nay?

My girls physical therapist is very against them because of hip and foot development. We have 2 that were passed on to us at my moms house that we use as exersaucers ( a safe place to put them down now that they are mobile.) we inly get to visit every few months though.

My DS loved it and started walking at 11 months. My DD hated it and never went in it and just started walking at 13 months.

I think it helped my DS develop muscles in his legs to walk earlier.

My pedi was against it too, but I live in a ranch a wasn't too concerned about falling downstairs and I was always by his side while he was in it. Also, I only kept him in it for about 15-20 minutes per day.

We were not permitted to use exersaucers for what felt like ages. I think they were 9 months adjusted age. The most important thing that the pt ist told us it that the babies feet need to be flat on the floor/bottom. Otherwise muscle development towards toe walking can happen which is bad. Talk to your ped about it.

Re: Walker. yay or nay?

We used a walker with dd ... For the simple fact my daughter refused belly time when younger and didn't crawl ... She wanted to move in the worst way we used the bouncer which she loved but she wanted to follow us so once we put her in the walker she loved it . We only used it for a couple of months then she sttarted walking and never looked back after her first b day

Re: Walker. yay or nay?

We used it and my DD's loved it.

My main concern with it would be stairs but since we live in a ranch stairs are not an issue for us.

We used it as a walker, a place to feed them and a stationary exersaucer.

The whole thing with leg development IMO is that you don't leave your child in it all day long. I don't see where anything in moderation is harmful to the development of your child, unless you are on a specific treatment by a pt of something.

All 3 of my girls used the walker-
DD #1 started walking right after 1st bday
DD#2 started walking at 10 months
DD#4 started walking right before 1st bday

Walker. yay or nay?

My son has a toy that he pushes and walks with, I suppose that is a walker? he only uses it once or twice a day for a minute or so. I know they are not recommended but we supervise him and let him use it a little bc we are trying to encourage gim walking and he gets a kick out of the fact that he is doing it all by himself lol

Ditto

And no space. I had an exerciser thingie and she only let us put her in there for a short time. It had a seat that would 'walk' around the center.

She was walking at 1yr. I dont credit that thing at all. Kids walk when they are ready.

By the same token AJ never army crawled or 'walked the couch' or used anything as support. She just shoved herself off the ground to stand. Then figured out how to move because we'd walk her around the house with her hands.

THis is not a walker. a walker is like an exersaucer without a bottom and wheels.
What you are using is great!!

Re: Walker. yay or nay?

We had one and DS loved it.

He started to walk at 10.5 months and I think that helped him a lot.

We didn't keep him it in for hours though - 15 minutes here and there thorughout the day.

He was also less frustrated when he was in because he had some freedom to go explore on his own (obviously everything that he could reach and pull was taken away).

We have one for DS 2 - we didn't for DS 1 because we had no room. He likes it but, prefers his jumperoo.

Walker. yay or nay?

I have nothing against them but DS never used one. He hates being trapped in things so we just let him move around by himself and now at 10 months is walking all around the house.
