My neighborhood is okay. Just have to be careful.
My sister and I are going to take my nephew. I have a lot of candy too so I hope I get trick or treaters.

We are going. The kids need to get out of the house.

I'm expecting a ton of kids - last year, we were greatly affected by the freak snow storm and I ran out of candy! Even.though the town said no trick or treating.

We are going. I walked around my apartment complex today some down trees but maintenance is on top of it. No down power lines.

DS school is closed. Im sure I am going to get kids super early since they will be home.

Trick or treating tomorrow?

I don't know what to do. I have no Halloween candy (wasn't thinking of that during hurricane prep). My town is very devastated but my immediate neighborhood is ok. You probably saw it on the news... I think Lindenhurst has been on every channel. My Kids have no school. I think I'm not so worried about it being safe, since my block is safe. I'm worried that people won't have any candy or won't be around and the kids will be disappointed.

I wish the governor or somembody would just officially change it to Saturday or Sunday!!!

Re: Trick or treating tomorrow?

No my dh said no. He use to work for an attorney and he worked on a case where a young man was killed a few day after a storm because a tree was weak and gave way. He doesn't want me taking the girls out. He has me all worried so we won't be going.

Re: Trick or treating tomorrow?

DS is 2 and we have power and so do the blocks nearby so I think I will take him to a handful of houses. I don't want him to miss out. It's bad enough his Halloween party at school was cancelled Chat Icon

(I know in the grand scheme of things it's not a big deal since he is 2 and won't know the difference either way, I just feel like I would be depriving him.)

Re: Trick or treating tomorrow?

We're going to try. Probably not as much as we would have. I want to give my kids some sort of Halloween. DS doesn't understand, but DD was pretty upset by the storm & is really sad about her Halloween parade. I want to try to give her some normalcy. We'll probably just try to so a few very local houses & probably drive around to visit family & friends.

I really hope that parents have the decency to keep their kids home. There are so many dangerous limbs still hanging, wires down and a lot of devastation. Our focus today is on clean up - not entertaining a bunch of trick-or-treaters at the door.

Re: Trick or treating tomorrow?

DD is only 4 months, and I'll now be home with her since her daycare and my school are closed. I just want to get her dressed up and take her somewhere, so we're going with my SIL and her kids for trick or treating at Roosevelt Field.

I really think it'll depend on how certain areas did during the storm. In my development, we have very few downed trees and most walkways are passable. Our power which was never lost is also underground. I expect to have the same amount of kids today as last year, if not more since they are all off. For us in particular, I think it makes sense to celebrate Halloween today and not on another day.

I think that if an area isn't too bad, there is nothing wrong with bringing kids out, even for just a few houses to trick or treat. Parents have to use their judgment when deciding how their neighborhood has fared. I'm in MD..the damage was minimal, some branches down and I do plan on taking my boys out tonight.

I think it's okay to have the kids trick or treat but parents have to use their judgement. My area is okay and we never lost power.

My kids are super excited to go out and we will most likely go out. They need some normalcy too! They have been looking forward to this for a long time and I would feel bad if it took it away from them.

Re: Trick or treating tomorrow?

I am taking my son to some houses. He has been so stressed by everything and doesn't fully understand it. All he knows is it's scary. We took a walk around the neighborhood yesterday to get some energy out of him. There are power lines down but, it's easy enough to cross the street.

I think kids don't understand this and need some normallcy and time to be a kid. If i lived south of merrick it would be a different story.

Same. Our neighborhood is fine. No down wires as they are underground.
And I only plan on taking my DD to a few nearby houses - she is a bit young anyway.
