Sleep Training a one year old

My ds just turned one today.
I had a pretty good bedtime routine going for a little while when my ds was 7 months old. I would put him down in his crib and he'd fall asleep on his own. Not all the time, but sometimes.

Then it all changed, he would not go to sleep unless i rocked him and had him right next to me.. which i did not mind bc i love having him snuggle up to me.
Very recently, I decided to stop rocking him to sleep in my bed with me and waiting until he's in a deep sleep to bring him into his crib for a couple of reasons.

I just feel he really should be able to put him self to sleep at this age now more than one night a week. Also, hes a big boy at almost 30 pounds and breaks my back!

It's night two of putting him directly into his crib and he screams hysterically. He is starting to jump up and down in his crib and have a tantrum. It breaks my heart and makes me feel like going into his room to pick him up, but I know this had to be done. :(

I've gone in once since 8:20 and its now 8:50. He's calming down and getting tired but, still crying here and there.

This is so hard :( I feel so bad..

I know your pain but you are doing much better than me as my dd is sleeping in my bed next to me. I haven't got the balls yet to let her cry it out. I NEED to do it she will be 1 at the end of Nov but I just hate having her cry for me. It's sad and I know how you feel but it is the best thing for them. Let me go take my own advice now! Good luck!

It really is so heart breakingChat Icon

I had to do CIO with DD for bedtime but for naps I just rock her. I couldn't take it.

If you can get through it, it will be better in the long run so he will learn how to go to sleep on his own.
