Do you find it rude if a family member
comes over to your home to see your DC, they say hi to you then extends their arms for you to hand over your DC. I don't know if I am turning a small thing into a rude act b/c I have issues w/this family member or if this person was being rude. It bothers me that they didnt ask to hold the baby, they simply just extended their arms as if Im just supposed to hand the baby over to them.
Thoughts?

I think its because you have issues with the family member.
My sister comes in to my house and does the same thing and to me its not rude. Then again, I have a great relationship with my sister.

Do you find it rude if a family member
Meh
Some people do it this way, some don't. The gesture is the request. I'm not a fan of it. I would deflect with "oh can you just wash up first" or "Why don't you put your stuff down first" or "do you mind if you sit down first" if they are young, older Id say "why don't we sit first, she gets a little ansy when she's rushed" (which is true for AJ). Now I just say "she'll come to you in her own time, if you push her she gets very scared and cries. About 20mins and you're her best friend, trust me" and its usually true! LOL
I dont hand my child over. Just odd.
But no.. i don't find the gesture itself 'rude' at all. I dont have family close by except my aunt so all people who wanted to hold AJ were barely talk to relatives or my friends. I went with the flow.
I personally dont do that. I ask first "may I?" but thats just how *I* work.

Re: Do you find it rude if a family member
I'd find that rude. I think the person should always ask to hold the baby or wait to be asked if they want to hold the baby. I would be offended if someone just used gestures and expected the baby to be passed to them.

I don't think it's rude. In my mind, if I allow someone over to my home to see my new baby, they're going to want to hold him/her. I think it's expected.

I dont find it rude. When most people come over now, its to see ds not me :). They always want to hold him. I gladly gve him over, whether they asked or just extend arms.

No, I don't think it's rude, but I can see it bothering you more bc you don't seem to like this family member. Now with my second when someone walks in I usually just hand him over without them asking so I can get a free moment.

I find it rude - forgivable - but rude.
I prefer someone to ask.
It's like plate of pasta in front of me. You can't just dig into to my dinner. Ask and I will share.

this. if i had a problem with a specific family member, i would do my best to prevent myself from being in the situation.

I have the opposite problem. Family members who couldn't be less interested in DS.

Re: Do you find it rude if a family member
At least they say hi to you, most people who come to see DS just hold out their arms without saying hello!! To answer the question, no I don't think its rude, depending on your relationship with that person.

Re: Do you find it rude if a family member
really?!?!??!
wow you must have some issues with that person to think that's rude from a family member.
Trust me, there are bigger things out there to worry about or to get offended by.

Re: Do you find it rude if a family member
I don't find it rude at all. I see it as family and friends loving my baby and wanting to hold them.
However, I have some family members that I find everything they do rude because of my own personal issues . So I can understand how you'd see it that way, but I think having issues with them is the reason.

Re: Do you find it rude if a family member
I don't know if I would say rude but I def. know what you are talking about. It bothered me more when she was younger and didn't have an opinion and people would just grab her. Now she is 11 months and is outspoken and will without a doubt let you know if she does not want you to hold her. It doesnt bother me now bc she can make her own decision.

I wish my family would do that. I think you're only finding an issue because of who it is.

ummmmmm......you have no idea who I am or what I have been through in life or what this person in particular has done to me. It was a simple question that did not call for your response. Your response is condescending and a simple "nope" would of been sufficient.
To the rest of you ladies, thanks for all your replies, I appreciate it.
