How long did it take DC to "get" solids?
DD is 6 months and we just started solids. So far she hated oatmeal and really didn't take any of it. Today was day 2 of bananas. I don't think she hated it but everything just gets pushed out of her mouth immediately. Does this mean her tongue thrust reflex isn't gone yet? Should I keep trying a little each day? Just wondering how long is normal for them to get used to spoon feeding.

Sounds like she isn't ready. We skipped baby foods with all of our kids. Went straight to soft table foods. They started table foods between7-9 months when they were ready. I let them take the lead so they never had any problems. Baby foods aren't essential so don't stress about them.

Bananas are thick, maybe thin them a bit? In the beginning I made everything a very thin, watery consistency so DS was less likely to be able to push it out. With more practice tongue thrust will go away. Just remember this is just practice so don't get frustrated. Personally I stick to cereal until DS got it a bit better so i wouldnt waste any food. The cereal is so cheap by comparison.
Good luck!

I did mostly breast milk (which I hate wasting) with a little mashed banana so it was thin but a little goopy. I bought some stage 1 purees so I'll try those in a few days to see if she likes that consistency better.
I know I should expect her to take much anyway I just didn't know if this was normal or if she just wasn't ready.

Bananas are rough. Might want to try string beans or squash if she didn't like cereal. Or play around with different thicknesses of the cereal. DD hated her formula so she took to solids in like 5 minutes, LOL, but never liked baby bananas!

It took DS 1 awhile. We started with rice cereal and he didn't love it. We then switched to oatmeal which he liked better and he loved apples and pears which we went to next.
DS 2 was eating like a champ on the first day - it was like he had been watching us eat and knew exactly what he needed to do. Now at 7 months, you can't eat in front of him if he isn't eating too or he has a fit!
I started solids with both boys at 4mos.
