Has anyone had this?

DD#1 woke up around 1 am thursday morning with one time vomiting, and 104. Took her to the ped to check for strep bc she was also complaining of a bad headache on the top of her head, sore throat and leg pain. Strep was negative ( as was the culture), her ears were okay but slight red throat. She was better Sat fever was down to 101.

Sunday fever was back up to 103.9 and is staying around 103+. It goes to 100.6 or so with motrin but is right back up by the time she can have her next dose. She feels okay but not great during the day. Only eating a little. But at night she is crying in pain.

Took her back to the ped yesterday since her fever is back up. They restrep tested her, but her throat is not red, ears and lungs are clear. No runny nose or cough. No vomiting since the one time last thursday morning. No diarrhea. Only complaints her tummy hurts.

Was told to bring her back tomorrow if she still has a fever. Poor thing is upset and wants to go back to school then the next minute is crying in pain.

Has anyone had this it seems a long time to have 103 fevers.

Could she possibly have coxsackie? Did you check her mouth/throat for sores. Dd, although younger just had this and had fever for 10 days. Only sores in mouth, nothing on hands/feet

Mentioned it to the ped who checked her out thoroughly yesterday and her throat is barely pink if at all NO sore or blisters anywhere. She felt it was not coxsackie. She had it at 18 months and it was horrible but it was not like this. She was crying in pain and not drinking when she had it.

Her main complaint is headache on top of her head and leg pain. Her stomach hurts on and off as well but they checked her belly as well. She has also said her chest hurts but 2 doctors listened to her lungs and they were clear ( and she is not coughing). Her ears had wax but they cleaned them and they were clear. They don't think she has the flu either.

I hate to drag her for a work up if it is just a virus. It just isn't like her to have high fevers for almost a week now.

I would go for a second opinion at a walk in after hours ped.

The apin in the head and fever would concern me. My brother had menigitis when he was younger and had head pain. I would get her rechecked esp since fever or pain not subsiding

I'd suggest the same. Two of my three DCs had Coxsackie this summer, but neither had the blisters in their mouth -- they showed up on hands/feet after the fever subsided - days later.
Even though there's no real treatment for the virus, it's better to be safe...

Re: anyone else have this?

A couple of weeks ago DD #1 had a high fever and was complaining about a headache. I took her to the Ped and throat culture came back negative. Next day, still high fever, still complaining of headache and tummy ache. That night a slight cough started to develop. When she woke up her fever was still high so I took her back in. Culture still negative. Ears, chest, throat all clear. The ped was concerned about the fever and that she was slightly coughing so she sent us for a chest x-ray. It turned out that DD had pneumonia.

We have seen 2 different peds in the group who both were very thorough. She has no cough or runny nose. If her fever isn't down when she wakes she is going back tomorrow. They were much more thorough than the experiences at PM peds where they barely examined my DD#2 the last 2 times we had to use them on a weekend.

I am hoping she will wake tomorrow feeling better but I am just nervous it has lasted so long.
