silly solids questions
I totally feel clueless. My pediatrician basically told me you can start solids between 4-6 months and didn't give me any other instructions/tips etc. So DS has been eating oatmeal one time a day(about 2 tbsp mixed w/ 1-2oz EBM) since 4.5 months. Questions: 1. When I start adding vegetables/fruits do I do that in addition to the oatmeal or instead of it and how much do I try to feed at a time? 2. When people say they give oatmeal/rice and a veggie/fruit at each meal are they mixing them together or feeding from 2 different containers? 3. If he doesn't like or eat any of the fruit or veggie that I offer should I then give him some cereal instead? 4. Also when do I add a second meal on and should that be more cereal or something else ie fruit/veggie?
Sorry these are such stupid questions I don't know why the solids thing has me so confused?

silly solids questions
Here's what we did:
1. When I start adding vegetables/fruits do I do that in addition to the oatmeal or instead of it and how much do I try to feed at a time?
My ped had us start with oatmeal and then at 6 months add a second meal and start veggies and fruits. So I still gave oatmeal as one meal and made the other a fruit or veggie while we tried the different foods. Always give a new food for three days without any other new foods in case of any allergies.
2. When people say they give oatmeal/rice and a veggie/fruit at each meal are they mixing them together or feeding from 2 different containers?
Sometimes I mixed them and sometimes I kept them separate. No rhyme or reason to it. But I will say that sometimes if she didn't really care for a veggie or fruit, she ate it if I mixed it with oatmeal because she LOVED oatmeal.
3. If he doesn't like or eat any of the fruit or veggie that I offer should I then give him some cereal instead?
You can, but keep offering the veggies or fruits that he doesn't like. DD HATED avocados the first time we tried them. I tried them two days in a row. I mean hated them to the point where she gagged. About a month later I tried them again and they were one of her favorite foods. She just wanted it cut up, not mashed. Picky kids! But keep in mind that solids before one is really just for practice. Formula / BM will remain their main source of nutrition. So not wanting a solid meal isn't really a big deal in the beginning.
4. Also when do I add a second meal on and should that be more cereal or something else ie fruit/veggie?
My ped had us add a second meal at 6 months and a third at 9 months.

There is no right or wrong. THe only thing you need to do is not add in new items until they have tried the old thing for a few days.
Mix with the cereal or not....it really doesn't matter. If your DS is not liking the fruit or veggie by itself then you can mix with cereal to try to get them to eat it.
Try not to think to much into it all......its just food and all you should really be worried about is allergic reactions....however they eat it is more of a what works best for your child.
Ped should tell you how many meals per day etc your DC should have. My Ped said start with one to get them used to eating and then if they have the hang of it add in another. We did not do 3 until 9 months.
