Newborn questions
I know ABSOLUTELY nothing about newborns! Thank god for LIF!!
1. About how many diapers do they go through in the beginning? My mom told me about 7/day. I'm trying to estimate how many diapers I'll need. (I got a ton for my shower).
2. Since they'll be born in December (God willing), what do I dress them in to go outside? I have the shower cap carseat cover? Can you tell me exactly what layer goes on top of what? I think those big puffy coats are a no no, right?
TIA

Re: Newborn questions
we went through 7-10 in the beginning
my son was born in may so I cant really help but I assume onsie with outfit over top, hat, socks, blanket over baby strapped into carseat and then shower cap bundleme type thing you can always add a second blanket over the baby under the shower cap cover but more than likely, you wont have them out for more than a run to or from the car.

Re: Newborn questions
My twins were preemies born 8 weeks early. We had to wake them to eat every 3 hours around the clock for a few months. We changed their diapers before every feeding. Sometimes they needed a change in between feedings too. It was a looooooot of diapers. 8 - 10 diapers per baby per day. Round it out to 9 a day x 30 days = 270 diapers per baby in a month. Yes, that is 540 diapers in a month.
No puffy jackets in the car seats. Carters makes cute little fuzzy bear jackets with a hood and footie pants. They would wear that over a sleep n play footie outfit. Most of the time they were going from the car to the house to somewhere warm (drs office, someone's house, etc)

Re: Newborn questions
My recommendation is to buy just 1 case of the newborn diapers. Babies grow quickly, I think I used them for like 3 wks and we were on to size 1. We used about 2 cases of that size and now we are on size 2 and my DS is almost 2 months od. He poops a lot. He will poop during a feeding and sometimes right after again. So I estimate we go through about 12 diapers a day.
My DD was born in December. We bought one of those light little bunting/snowsuit thing from Carters. She wore that as her outer layer and then we had a bundle me for the carseat which acted as an other layer/blanket. Honestly, in the cold we were just in and out of the car with the carseat so a big heavy snowsuit wasn't necessary.

is it something like this? link . I have that Carter's bunting for both of my girls it's great! Not too thick for the carseat. I agree you will probably need about 8-11 diapers per baby per day in the beginning.

Re: Newborn questions
In the beginning we went through about 10 diapers a day.
As for clothing, anything that easily allows you to change a diaper (see above, ). I love the warm fleece suits for infants in the winter, and that should be fine as an outer layer for taking them to the car. If you're inside the house I would suggest l/s onesies with fleece/sweatshirty pants and a l/s fleece/sweatshirty top.

Re: Newborn questions
We easily went through 12 diapers a day in the beginning . He always needed to be changed.
As for what he wore, i usually had him a fleece sleep and play or a fleece outfit, with socks and a hat. When going to the car, he had a blanket and the car seat cap thing.

Re: Newborn questions
my dd went through close to 10 diapers a day for the first 3 weeks or so. She was pooping everytime she ate lol. I was also going through 1 individual pack on wipes a week too. Then after 3-4 weeks it tapered off and now we go through about 5 diapers a day at 3months. She poops usually once a day now.
I would get a bunting for the babies, carters makes a nice fleece one that I just bought for dd. Its warm but not thick and bulky at all. I acually bought it in a hoodie too, for her to wear now. I bought her a heavy bulky bunting but im thinking of returning it.

Re: Newborn questions
my twins were premies and went through 8-10 diapers a day each for months! As for going out in the car... I would leave their regular clothes on, sometimes throw and blanket over their legs and then the car seat cover and a hat kept them VERY warm.
