I hate not using bumpers!
DD is a big kicker. She literally kicks herself all over the crib at night. She rotates herself horizontal, and kicks until her head hits the bars...and wakes her up! Now she's rolling too, so she is really all over the place. I know a mild head bump is nothing compared to the possibility of SIDS, but I have been so tempted to put the bumpers back in. I won't do it, because then I'll really never sleep out of worry, but it is tempting.
We have breathable bumpers that we haven't used yet, but those won't stop the head bumping.
Does anyone know the most affordable place to get the wonder bumpers?

I put bumpers in the crib at that point. I think SIDS is more of a concern with a baby before the crazy moving (which for me was 8 to 9 months). I put a pillow in at 12 months.
We did go bumper free when they were very little.

I switched to the breathable and kept them in there until she was using them as legrests...she still gets her legs stuck, but knows how to get them out without crying/waking herself up...peace of mind and safety are important and like PP said, there is a point where risk of SIDS goes down..think about it..when they are on their tummy, they know to move their head to the side, etc. for breathing...I could be wrong, but it made sense to me

We had the breathable bumpers in and DS was swaddled like a burrito until a lout 6-7 mos. we stopped swaddling once DS was army crawling and rolling all over the place. At that point I also put in the regular bumpers and felt comfortable doing so. He rocks and rolls like a maniac while trying to fall asleep and still is all over the place all night. He is hearty and mobile and I feel comfortable doing so. Do what feels right for you.
We also have 2 blankets, 3 stuffed animals, and a small pillow in the crib with him at 13 mos.

DS is 10 months and has bumpers in his crib. He sleeps with a light blanket....SIDS is a concern before 5 months. I feel comfortable that he's safe.
