Do you always bring something for the host when you go to a friend's house for a playdate?

If I host anything at my house, even a 1.5 hour mid week playdate, I put out food since playdates always seem to run into meal time.
All of our playdates with family friends include a meal.
DH thinks we should always bring something if someone invites us over to their home. I think he is confusing dinner party etiquette with playdate etiquette.
Do you bring something if you go to someone's home for a playdate? Does it make a difference if there is a meal being served?

i only bring something if it was pre-discussed. but most of my playdates are with close friends so we usually talk about it beforehand.

I'll usually bring a snack, but I ask the host what they need me to bring. If its a drink, I'll pick up juice etc.

People always text me and ask me if I need them to bring anything. I always say nothing. then they usually bring something anyway.
