Re: Samuel Field Y Preschool?
I went to the little neck samuel field y and I have such fond memories of being a student there! I am still friends with many of the kids!
I then worked at the bay terrace samuel field y and loved it. I wish I lived close by to send my child there...
in my opinion there is no daycare or preschool better than the samuel field y's. And I have been in a lot of daycare and prek classrooms!

Re: Samuel Field Y Preschool?
The one in little neck, right? We were going to enroll ds into the not quite nursery program because they allow parents to sit in for a few classes.
Before siging up, please set up an appointment so you can see a class in action. Thank goodness, I did that because I didn't like what I saw at all. I saw them in March.
There were two "teachers", class size was small & nice (don't know exact number) We asked the person who ran the program if the 2 teachers were certified & she said she didn't know but she thinks so.. um, clearly means NO in my book & then she followed it up with- but one of the teachers is a mom of 2 & the other a mom of 3 so they have a lot of experience dealing with kids. um, ok, I a am a mom of 2 so am I qualified to teach a class?
During the first half of the class, each kid did their own thing & the teachers would help them & play with them if a kid needed help. Next was story time, where everyone sat in a circle & Teacher A read a book but one kid just could not stop chatting so he got sent to time out (which the director advised me they do not do) Time out was the kid sitting with the teacher B on her lap while she covered his mouth with her hand when he first sat down & then he stopped talking.
Then was snack time, Teacher B gave each kid a teeny amount of water or juice in a cup with apple slices & goldfish & they had to sit down but one kid just could not sit down. He went to grab a toy, I witnessed teacher A agressively pull the toy out of his hand. I mean, RIPPED it out of his hand.
Last was recess, where they went to the gym area (which is right near the main entertrance & very easy for someone to walk in & grab a kid or a kid to run out (even though they assured me that they have security at the doors, never saw them)
They also have this thing maybe once a week or every few weeks, I dont remember exactly, where they pair each kid up with a senior to spend time together & do an activity(it's monitored) but I just thought it was weird & felt uncomfortable about forcing my 2 year old to do that.
I grew up around there as a kid & a lot of my friends from school went there & then became camp counselour there, the price was perfect & it is now within walking distance to my house but I just couldn't sign ds up. Both teachers lacked patience imo, which is important when dealing with 2 year olds. Maybe those 2 are gone now, which would be nice. I also thought that the classroom was a little dirty as well as the bathroom that the teacher & kids both use.

Is that the school behind Bay Terrace? They have the big pool? If so I wasn't impressed. I put my ds in the Tiny Tots program at St Luke's. It's 2 days a week and parents are allowed to stay for the first 4 or 5 classes.

The class is 90 minutes, and there are a few different day and time options.
Ds went last year and was tues/thurs 12-1:30pm
I really loved the program, I'm glad I put him in it,

Samuel Field Y Preschool?
I'm a little surprised to hear this, as I worked with these places as well (camp, etc.) and know parents there recently and now who love it...
