Transitioning to crib (age)

So what's the earliest you have transitioned your DC from your room to their room? I thought most do it around three months, but now I'm hearing earlier than that.

What were your reasons for transitioning either earlier or later?

Re: Transitioning to crib (age)

We moved DD at 7-8 weeks. I was going back to work at 11 weeks, and wanted her in her room before then, but mainly it was because she was such a loud sleeper that I was up almost all night!

This was me too! Once she began sleeping from 11p/12m through 5/6am I felt a lot better about putting her in her crib. The transition was smooth for her...I cried and stared at the monitor (Chat Icon ) and I used a crib wedge because she did not like to sleep flat.

Re: Transitioning to crib (age)

I only have the one DS. I transitioned him at around 5 or 6 months. He was getting too big for his swing. I started on a weekend so I could recover if I lost any sleep. I put him down on his naps and waited till he was good and tired before putting him in for the night. I kept his room door open and the camera on him.

He's 9 mos now, STTN most of the time and sleeps with the door pretty much closed. I use a night for him but I don't think he cares if it's on.

Re: Transitioning to crib (age)

DD slept in her bassinet until about 10 weeks, except at night. Once 10 weeks hit, I started putting her down in her crib for naps and then finally around week 12, she went into the crib at night.

She probably could have gone into the crib earlier, but I didn't want to let her go yet... DH was all for her sleeping in her all room once 8 weeks hit, I just couldn't do it.
The first night she slept in her crib, I was up every hour checking on her and kept staring at the monitor.

She's 4 months, and I still stare at the monitor in the middle of the night and don't sleep well! Chat Icon

Re: Transitioning to crib (age)

DD is 6 months and she's just starting to sleep in her crib.

for the first couple of months she slept in our room in the rnp. we thought she would be moved at 3 months but I still felt like she was too little and she was still nursing a few times a night.

Then I started bed sharing with her in the guest room since it was easier to nurse her through the night and everyone got more sleep (i was back at work at this point). Turns out, I love sleeping with her (swore i would never bedshare before i had kids) and kind of dragged my feet with moving her in her own room. DH and I agreed that when she was down to one nursing a night, she'd go in the crib. she has been doing fine with the transitioning...better than i have lol. Last night she woke up at 4:20 am and I nursed her and slept with her for a couple of hours before i had to get up for work.

I believe the new recommendation is co sleeping longer than the 3 months that was previously recommended. I think 6 months but i could be wrong on that.

I think it's ALL up to the child and the mom. for ME i got better sleep when LO was with me. I also cherished that one on one snuggle time since I am at work all day. Lastly, I am so sensitive to her movements that I felt that she was the safest right next to me, not down the hall. If DH didn't want me back in the bed, I'd probably still be bed sharing Chat Icon

I am not one who believes that cosleeping will produce needy babies. that can and does deter some people. follow what is comfortable for you.

eta: she slept 9pm-4:20am. best she's done so far in the crib.

Re: Transitioning to crib (age)

I moved my twins out of our room and into their cribs at 8 months adjusted. I think.. lol. That is when they stopped getting up in the middle of the night. It was just easier for me to keep them in our room until then. They were napping in their room prior to that.

Both kids moved around 8 weeks bc they were getting uncomfortable in the bassinet.

DS transitioned from his RNP to his crib at 4 months old. He was in his room from day one though.

Transitioning to crib (age)

We moved DS 1 at one month because he was so loud - we weren't sleeping and he was!

We moved DS 2 at 4 months. We were nervous to move him sooner since he'd be sharing a room with DS 1. There was very little issue in transitioning him over.

6 weeks. DD is really loud sleeper and we were getting almost zero sleep ourselves. Moving her to her own crib was such a life saver.

Re: Transitioning to crib (age)

I moved DD to her crib in her own room at 6 weeks, the night before I returned to work. I figured that my alarm or me getting ready would wake her up in the morning. Also, although I had a video monitor on her at all times, I needed to be able to sleep without hearing every little noise she made (i would get hung up on if that "sounded normal"). And she didn't give me any problems with the move either.

DD 1 was at 6-7 weeks because her room was not ready (we were doing construction in the house initially) but then it just became habit after 3-4 weeks . she was a really loud sleeper and we needed her out of our room. She started sleeping through the night inconsistently at 3 months and then consistently at 4 months (11-12 hours)

DD2 went in the crib at day 1. I thought it was better to just do one transition unlike with our first. She was sleeping through the night (11-12 hours at 7 weeks) and sleeping 5-6 hours at about 4 weeks.

1st child-6 weeks
2nd child-I think about 2 or 3 weeks

1st one slept through the night once in crib so figured that would be the same for the 2nd. Did not work as the 2nd did not sleep through the night until 10 weeks.

Transitioning to crib (age)

Both our boys slept in their cribs right from day 1. We figured everyone would sleep better that way and it would be one less transition to deal with later on. Worked great for us both times!

We moved her at 2 months. She was only nursing once a night at that point so it seemed doable. The main reasons though were that she seemed to getting too small for the cosleeper and she was keeping DH and I up. She would kick her legs up and then bang them down on the bassinet so loudly! She also would turn herself sideways so she'd be scrunched up so much. She slept great on her own but I sleep much worse without her there!

Re: Transitioning to crib (age)

We moved dd at 4 months from the bassinet to the crib. She wasn't sleeping through the night, but she definitely wanted to stretch out more than the bassinet would let her.
