1 year bloodwork
Just wondering if anyone knows of any Sunrise blood labs in the Smithtown, or Miller Place area (or anywhere in between!) that are good with little ones. My son has to go for his 1 year bloodwork, and I'm a nervous wreck about it. Also, any tips to make it go as smooth as possible would be greatly appreciated!

Re: 1 year bloodwork
Honestly I learned its worse on us. Labs do it all day long and they are prof, good and quick. Anyone of them can do a 1 yr old bloodworm. Believe me... With DS1 I was a wreck and waited till the last minute... I think he was 15 months. He cried more bc he was being held. Probably distracted so much with that he didn't even feel the needle. As soon as it was done and he could move he was fine. Thy are fast and good. I went with DH and the baby sat on his lap. With DS2 I knew it would be ok and not that bad. Went at 12 months. Again, like my first son, he cried bc his arm was being held. When they finished after a moment or two he was fine again and laughing and smiling like nothing happened.
Good luck!! Everything will be ok.

There is one on Middle Country Road in Selden next to Petco, across the street from Home Depot. I have never had to wait there.
ETA: I haven't taken my girls here but I've seen them with other kids and they seem good.

Re: 1 year bloodwork
I feel I have to be the differing opinion. Not all labs are created equal and not every tech is as good with children as others. I took DS to Enzo in selden (the one on middle country road--wait i think they call it coram) and it was an utter nightmare. She missed DS' vein three times and was suggesting that I bring him back another time. I told her her job was to find his vein and I wasnt bringing him back to be tortured on another day. On her fourth try she did it. I would never take DS back there again, however, I have had my blood drawn there on several occasions and never had an issue.

For DS 1 it was in a labcorp in RVC. We lived there at the time and now we are in nj so went to s labcorp around here. Both did great with the boys, but another poster said thayer are different so get advise from more people and then decide. I promise it's not that bad. Like I said... Both boys cried when they were being held down. Before they even got the needle.

Re: 1 year bloodwork
I took my son for bloodwork twice (1 yr and then again at 22 months) to the Sunrise Lab in Holbrook on Main St. He was most upset about the tourniquet Although they did have to try both arms the first time, the second time was much quicker and he barely even cried.

I ended up going to St. Charles Hospital, in Port Jefferson. What a relief! They were FANTASTIC with my son. I recommend them highly.

1 year bloodwork
We just did this, yes he screamed bloody murder but then it was over and he was fine (and my DS is very sensitive to any shots or needles, he goes beserk! lol). Unlike a shot there is no after crankyness just the yelling when they take the blood. GOOD LUCK
