When your newborn wakes up and won't go back to sleep do you play with them or ignore them?
Ds is 2 months and always goes back to sleep after a bottle in the middle of the night. He didn't go back to sleep this time so he is in the swing. Is it wrong to just go back to sleep on the couch?? Just feel bad because he is wide awake and I never ignore him when he is up. What do others do?

They say you should avoid playing with them bc it will not only stimulate them & wake them up more but it will train them to wake in nite to play with mommy! They even say when ur changing diaper or whatever to not even make eye contact with them.. I try to stare at DD's chest/stomach & see her staring at me out of the corner of my eye. It's hard & kind of sad but sleep is important to me lol. If baby is crying then maybe try rocking him a little but with the lights dim & dont talk or even look at him. We did all this with DD & she was STTN at around 5-6 weeks. (could be coincidence but I like to think I had at least something to do with it! Hahaha! I'm actually up right now pumping while DD is sleeping soundly! GL :)

Nope!!! Let them be awake and you can go back to sleep. Try to stimulate them as little as possible.

Thanks everyone! I left him in the swing but slept on the couch so at least I was close by.

Not at all, as long as he is not crying go to sleep. You dont want to stimulate them when its time for bed

I don't pick him up in the middle of the night. I leave him in there. I will pat his butt to help him fall back asleep. DH on the other hand caves all the time. I found him sleeping on the couch this morning and DS was in the infant to toddler seat sleeping. Seems I have to deal with my DH fowling up everything, LOL!

If they are awake and happy, I have no problem sleeping through it.
I've slept on the couch while DC sleep or hang out in the swing.
