When YOU have to go to dr.??
do u get a babysitter? I have to go get bloodwork, and my mom is not available to babysit for a while...should i bring my 4.5 month old with me? I'm so paranoid she might pick something up at the doctor. Its my general practioner doctor.

Re: When YOU have to go to dr.??
When my lil guy was about 4 months, I needed to go to the general practioner and had the same fears as you. I honestly wouldn't chance it and left him with my Mom. I probably wouldn't bring the baby, especially with all of the viruses and such going around now. Good luck! If you had to, I would see if you could wait outside with the baby and have them call your cell when you needed to go in...don't know if they could do that, but it's a thought if you had to bring them

I would take her and just keep her in the carseat. I would probably ask if they can put you in a room right away so you don't have to sit in the waiting room with her. I find most places pretty accommodating in the case of an infant.

When I lived in NY I had no other care available. So until she went to daycare, yes I did this.. I took her with me. Everywhere.

Re: When YOU have to go to dr.??
I wouldn't. Last year I had to go to the doctor and was so nervous in the waiting room (filled with people in close proximity hacking their lungs out) that I was going to pick something up and bring it home to DD. I still won't take her. I don't usually have sitters available during the day so I make evening or late afternoon apts when DH can watch her. Many offices also offer weekend apts. Good luck!

Re: When YOU have to go to dr.??
i usually chose not to bring her but if i have no other choice i bring her. just bring stuff to keep her entertained or a treat . i had to bring her when i got trigger point injections which they stuck needles in my back. she sat in her stroller and thought it was funny .

Re: When YOU have to go to dr.??
Ive taken my dd twice so far, at 6w, 10w, and probably again tomm at 12 weeks. I would rather leave her home but I cant always get a sitter. I leave her in the stroller and shes fine.

Re: When YOU have to go to dr.??
I try to get someone to watch her but if I have no one, then yes, I take her with me... But I don't fear the germs around her... It's just a pain to not be able to really calm her if she's agitated...
I made the mistake of taking her to my OBGYN office and I waited forever and by the time I got into the room to be seen, dd wasn't having any part of it... So I had to hold her on me while laying down getting checked out very interesting scene...

Re: When YOU have to go to dr.??
My older DC is in school all day, but I often am stuck taking my younger DC with me to a dr's appt. I really, really try not to take her to a general practitioner's office-- they are usually filled with sick people coughing all over. But I have taken her to the gyn with me many times, and I also don't mind taking her on my twice-yearly visit to the endocrinologist, since there aren't sick people there.

Re: When YOU have to go to dr.??
If your just getting bloodwork done I think its fine to bring DD. I had to get bloodwork done over the summer and no one could watch DS so I brought him with me. I had an early appointment to get the blood drawn and we were in and out in like 10 minutes. I think its fine

When YOU have to go to dr.??
I took my DS to a bunch of my appts. I had to see my hemo for blood work all the time after birth and would take him. Most time he was sleepign in the stroller.
My DS is a daycare baby.....so he will pick up soemthing at school or anywhere we go if he is going to get sick. I can't shelter him or I'd go crazy.

I've always taken my DD to dr. appts with me since she was a NB. I generally don't have much of a choice.

This happened to me too I thought I was the only one! It was quite a scene!
I would try to get a babysitter if possible.

When YOU have to go to dr.??
At that age, I took them with me. Now that there older, in some ways, it's easier because they don't act up and can sit and be patient and not have crying fits....but I just can't have them watch certain things. I had to go for blood recently and didn't want them watching that. If I had no choice, I would have taken them and asked them to look away, but DH was around so he waited in the car with them while I ran in and had blood taken. I certainly could not take them with me to the gyn and have them be in the room for that. So, I guess my answer is, it depends. :)

.
This has happened to me right around when my DD was 10-12 mths, and I was preggo with my second. One time while the doc was examining me, I was holding DD and she bit my face (playfully, but it hurt.) Very odd to say the least.

When YOU have to go to dr.??
I don't have a lot of options, as DH works long hours and we don't have a lot of family available to help.
One memorble trip was when I had pertussis last winter. I was SO SICK. I was having coughing firs to the point that I threw up, fever, etc. really sick. My doctor met me at the office at 7pm so I could be seen. I had a 10 year old, 5 year old and a 2 year old, two of whom were past their bedtime. It was lunacy... they were SO badly behaved and I was so sick I probably shouldn't have been seen. Anyway, my Dr diagnosed me, wrote me prescriptions for drugs, and then wrote a note to my husband to take a few days off of work, and a note to his boss saying his wife was very ill!! SHe wrote on DH's note, "SHe needs help."

she goes with me. If it was for something where she couldnt come in the room (a dental cleaning) I took my mom with us to watch her in the waiting room. Otherwise she was in the stroller with me
